Warren & Harris Tweet A Lie Saying Michael Brown Was Murdered By a Cop

catkinZ8a

On Ferguson, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris Told a Terrible Lie

David FrenchAugust 12, 2019

On Friday afternoon, two of the leading contenders in the Democratic presidential primary lied. There’s no other fair way to put it. They flat-out spread fiction, libeled an innocent man, and stoked American divisions — all for political gain.

Five years ago, a Ferguson, Mo., police officer named Darren Wilson shot a young black man named Michael Brown to death after an altercation in the street. False rumors about Brown’s death — namely that he was shot in cold blood while trying to surrender with his hands in the air — ignited violent protests in Missouri and revulsion across the United States.

“Hands up, don’t shoot” became a national rallying cry — until the Obama Department of Justice comprehensively and thoroughly debunked it in a lengthy report published on March 4, 2015. Writing in December of the same year, the Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler called the slogan one of “the biggest Pinocchios of the year.”

But Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren ignored the Obama DOJ. They blew straight through the facts of the case and published these accusations:

Michael Brown’s murder forever changed Ferguson and America. His tragic death sparked a desperately needed conversation and a nationwide movement. We must fight for stronger accountability and racial equity in our justice system.

— Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) August 9, 2019

5 years ago Michael Brown was murdered by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Michael was unarmed yet he was shot 6 times. I stand with activists and organizers who continue the fight for justice for Michael. We must confront systemic racism and police violence head on.
— Elizabeth Warren (@ewarren)
August 9, 2019

To demonstrate just how preposterous it is to accuse Wilson of murder, it’s worth revisiting the actual facts of the case, according to the best evidence available to the investigators. On August 9, 2014, Michael Brown and a friend were walking in the middle of the street shortly after Brown had stolen cigarillos from a local market and shoved away the store clerk when he tried to intervene.

But the Justice Department’s 2015 report contradicted many of the protesters’ claims, finding that Wilson likely did have reason to fear for his life and didn’t violate the law in shooting Brown. The Warren and Harris campaigns did not return requests for comment.

The tweets expose the fine line that Warren, Harris, and others calling attention to police brutality have to walk. Individual police shootings and killings can and do help draw attention to genuine, broader issues surrounding police violence and systemic racism. But because the original narrative around the shootings can simply turn out to be wrong as we get more evidence, there’s a risk that attaching calls for reform too much to individual shootings and killings can backfire.

The response to the Warren and Harris tweets, from conservative and more progressive commentators, demonstrates that risk: Because Warren and Harris got the details of the Brown shooting wrong, their bigger message about policing and racism has gotten lost on social media in a sea of criticism over the facts of the shooting.

The Justice Department report exonerated the cop who shot Michael Brown

There is no excuse for either of them using the word murder. As tragic as his death was it was not murder. We can talk about the police use of lethal force but it wasn't murder and they both know that.

You don't use all those adjectives but you use use several of them and a few more when describing what you think of liberals. I have to think that is because that is how you feel.

I feel that base Trump supporters either share his values and beliefs or don't but will not speak up against him and his inappropriate and erratic because they are willing to compromise those values for whatever it is they think he will give them.

What is the difference? Why is it OK for Trump supporters to say what they think of liberals but the other way around is not OK?

It's not just that Warren and others lied. It's that it puts the general public at risk for further rioting in the streets when sitting Congress persons who are running for President, tweet out the outright lie that Officer Wilson murdered Michael Brown.

To further fans the flames, Warren of all people is certain to mention that Wilson is white. I mean, so is she and we all know it.

It is flagrant malfeasance to disregard the findings of Obama's DOJ, which found that "hands up, don't shoot" was a lie, and that Brown attacked Wilson, tried to get into his car and get his gun. It was a justified police shooting and the officer was in fear for his life.

To abuse her position and use her pulpit so carelessly and wantonly should disqualify Warren from the race all together. Her actions were reckless and could have reignited riots in Ferguson.

Why are Warren's comments anymore dangerous than Trump's. Apparently only reckless Democratic comments matter...........bizarre logic.

And now that we know the truth, and we haven't experienced the same horrible and violent riots since Obama left office, Warren is stoking the flames and for what?

The face of leadership took a far right turn at the golden elevator when dignity and civility in America became a mark of weakness, when truth was proclaimed fake news and alternate facts aka lies took its place. Here Carro, fixed that for you (but kept the grammar):

It's not just that Trump lied and keeps lying. It's that he put Hispanics, be they citizens, permanent residence or immigrants at risk to be shot down and killed in white supremacist domestic terrrorist attacks, which is what happend due to the president, tweeting out outright lies, over and over, that immigrants from South and Central America are rapists and MS16 murderers.

To further fan the flames, trump repeats these outrageous lies over and over again, which is flagrant malfeasance to disregard the facts that immigrants cause lower numbers of criminals percentage wise, than are found in the native born population.

To abuse his position and use his bully pulpit so carelessly and wantonly should disqualify trump from holding the presidency alltogether. His actions have been reckless and are at least partially responsible for the domestic terrorism that killed and maimed so many Hispanics in El Paso.

You can disagree with the interpretation of the facts as we know them, but you can't call an interpretation of facts by a reasonable person a lie or a mere opinion or speculation about facts a lie. There is a lot that we don't know including what the mindset of the policeman was when he decided to not only wound Brown but to but kill him. I don't believe for a second that the Policeman was worried about his safety.

Like when Brown ran away?

Have you seen the video of Brown threatening the convenience store
clerk? He looked like a monster high on PCP. He also reached into the
cop car, to my knowledge.

I am not sure who grabbed whom first but after that confrontation at the car Brown fled on foot, wounded. I have a lot of questions about the Officers actions after that and why he decided to kill Brown in cold blood. Shot to kill, not to take down.

The story that Brown grunted and charged the cop (who was firing at him with a gun) like an animal was a joke and a racist one at that.

The DOJ did not exonerate Wilson just like Mueller4 did not exonerate Trump. They found that they could not prove a crime beyond a reasonable doubt. That doesn't mean that Wilson didn't murder Brown, it just means that it cannot be proven in court given the rules of evidence.

I would argue that there is malice in racism and racial profiling. Murder doesn't require conviction, in fact, I am not so sure that there is always a line that distinguishes justifiable homicide from murder.

Does anyone believe that a preppy white kid in a good neighborhood would have been killed in this same situation? If not, then how is that not profiling?

It is profiling! That is the real dilemma in these situations. The police officer uses all previous interactions and preconceptions to protect himself, and it is reasonable for him to do so. However, from the perspective of the young black man getting shot because of those preconceptions, it isn't fair and it is malicious.

It seems to me that we are splitting hairs about whether it was murder or homicide.
