WANTED: variegated agave attenuata & variegated agave americana
Comments (0)Hello, I'm not sure if it is appropriate to request an in-person trade, but, I would much prefer that. So, if you are in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area, here is what I am looking for: I am looking for a variegated agave attenuata offset, as well as offsets of a variegated agave americana and an agave americana medio-picta. Also, any brugmansia seedlings, since I can't seem to get any of my seeds to germinate. What I have to trade: I have seedlings for jacarada, Phoenix bird of paradise (caesalpinia pulcherrima), passionflower (what kind, i am not sure...), and datura wrightii. Thanks!...See MoreThink I May've Killed My Agave On Accident. Can It Be Saved?
Comments (4)Thank you for your replies. Well.. after digging out the 'big mamma', it was obvious it couldn't be saved.. the roots were awful looking & the whole thing smelled BAD. There were 2 babies off to the side and one of them was still colored brightly and had decent roots, so I pulled it out and am waiting for it to dry completely before putting it into new dirt....See MoreGiant Agaves in NC and VB,,,,,Here I am with a hug Agave in south
Comments (9)Hello Everyone... Cactusmcharris...yes, that is me behind that huge Agave!!! We were on vacation down on the Outer Banks fishing that day...I really didn't want to post a pic of myself...but I wanted to show the size of the Agave!!! "Great Hair day after boating all day!!!" LOL... I know you have many palms up in your area (Kamloops) : ) beacuase I have passed through your area several years ago on my way from Banff to Canum Lake near 100 mile house!!! Beautiful area...lots of snow, but missing the palms!!! If you ever get the urge to hug an Agave...make sure the points have been removed!!! LOL...or else you will have natural piercings all over...this is a plant that demands respect!!! That's why I had to give this "Mac Daddy" a small hug!!! It has to be the biggest one that I have ever seen growing close in my area... Hello Josh...That is one beauty of an Agave!!! You are very lucky to have a friend that would let you dig up a beauty like that!!! Great find!! You must have been thrilled!!! How is it doing now? Thanks for all of your help... Hi Mike!!! That AGave came from a friend of mine that is no longer here with us...so it is very special to me...I call it "My Jack Plant" A coworker of mine had it growing in PA and sent me a pup to grow...It has taken off and loves the climate here in VB. I really need to plant it in the ground because it is so root bound, but I am afraid of losing it...hopefully next spring I will plant it somewhere in my back yard...my son gets very tired of moving it around for me...like I said to catsusmcharris..you get pierced all the time!! I use fingernail clippers to trim the points off of mine!!! Yes, that is my mug peeking through the leaves of that beautiful Agave... Take care everyone!!! Comments (4)babka ~ All that you've said is just sooo different from Texas plants. In the past year, I've been diagnosed with a compressed L2/3 & my DH has been diagnosed with bulging L3/4, L4/5 and L5/S's. For our back health & our budget, we work with small plants & just force ourselves to be patient and let them mature when they're ready. The last thing I want to do is put myself in a position where I have to repot on a regular basis with ever-larger plants. Wet: my entire hosta bed is at the feet of three mature Burford hollies. That gives lots of shade and also filters the bulk of the precip. They also have a dense root system - don't know how it compares to everyone's maples, but it hasn't been fun. Only a couple of my hosta are truly in ground. The rest are either in large planter boxes with open bottoms that lead to the ground or large pots. I have a pot that is 17" wide by 15" high, & I had hoped to put my new June (six eyes) into it. Its currently in a 1gal nursery container. ~ freshair...See Morecactusmcharris, interior BC Z4/5
