Comments (0)Howdy all, here is part 2 of how to understand and adjust your GDO. Now that you have decided you are comfortable with working on a ladder and working overhead and checked the doorbalance and hardware and adjusted the forces---all as outlined in part one...we can proceed. Lets look at how to adjust the limits. NORMALLY this happens after the force adjustment if you dont have broken internals and is very simple. But for completeness let us first assume you have done the worst things like changed a chain or gearkit the wrong way and now the limits are not even close to being in the proper position. Manually close door. UNPLUG and pull cover. Make sure you have pulled the trolley release so chain moving wont move the door. plug back in. WITH REMOTE THAT WORKS AT THE READY push the remote button to operate the door and watch inner trolley connected to chain. If it moves towards the closed position let it go until the GDO stops by itself.....EXCEPT if the trolley is with within a few inches of the end of the rail and still hasn't stopped stop it with the remote button. When the inner trolley is stopped in the down position like this the inner trolley should be about lined up with the outer trolley that is linked to the door. If it aint you can either: Adjust the down limit towards more travel if you only need a few inches of adjustment. If you are way off-UNPLUG unit, loosen chain and reinst chain so that the inner trolley is within an inch or two of the outer trolley. Now replug and hit the button again. The inner trolley should move up and stop about halfway on the rail for one piece, about 6 inches from the end of the rail for sectionals(most). Open door by hand, the inner and outer trolleys hould be within a few inches of each other. If not, adjust the up limit screw until the trolley parts align with each other. Now if you have a one piece move the up limit adjustment towards decrease tracel about 1 to 2 turns. With trolleys still disconnected run the gdo again, which should be the down direction; and close the door by hand. The trolleys should be in the same spot. Now hit button and move the inner trolley up and manually open the door. Trolleys should meet in the same spot. If not adjust the up limit screw until they do. Now connect the trolleys, cycle the door and it should stop in the proper positions up and down. Next post we will check the safeties and the post after that some common repairs. Comments (173)There are two completely separate possible problems. Problem #1 is a noisy LED (not, sound noise, but electrical noise that makes radio interference) that makes it more difficult for the radio signal from remote to base to work. Problem #2 is a capacitor on the board that wears out with age that affects the wireless capabilities. The LED bulb doesn't cause a bad capacitor or vice versa. These are cumulative issues, but unrelated in cause. So, it's slightly possible that a combination of these two issues could exist where the cumulative effects of both are enough to make it not work. But, one doesn't cause the other. Test #1 is to just temporarily remove any bulbs from the opener and see if that makes a difference in how the wireless remote works. If it does, then you probably just need a better bulb. If it doesn't, then the next most likely cause is the capacitor. For my opener, the bulbs made no difference. Mine was fixed by replacing the capacitor and is now working fine (at 25 years old)....See Moreno door from the main floor laundry to garage
Comments (4)Being a laundry room, there might be plumbing and electrical concerns that would have to be re-located which could run into quite a bit of work and money. If you go the home depot route, i would get a licensed contractor for the install, and not h.d's installers.Although they are licensed to install,h.d's m.o. on installs leaves much to be desired, imho. Get a reputable remodeler/builder or expert handyman and check references....See MoreCraftsman 1/2 hp Garage Door Opener Problem
Comments (5)'96 Craftsman 139 53648SRT model 1) problems closing....go down a lil a come back up. RPM sensor I suspect ??? 2) LED flashing 5 times.....RPM sensor ? 3) while researching above problems...now when the remote or wall unit (no pad) is engaged, there is nothing but a slight/quick "humming" noise..and nothing happens. This is a new symptom. 4) I have checked/tired to align the infra red sensors.... this model has both lights on constant, regardless of whether they are in sync or not. I checked the wiring from teh sensors back to the motor/unit. I'm not sure how to align them now. QUESTIONS: which do I address first ? I'm not sure I can align the infra red sensors without the "humming" and no activity when I engage the opener. Should I look at the RPM sensor first ? Is the gear stripped ??? causing the humming and non activity ? The opener was opening before I started working on it. Thanks to anyone and everyone who has advice on this....See MoreRelated Professionals
