Need help determining conifer for privacy screen
Comments (4)Thanks Ken. We are in Cincinnati, OH. It is not my property but we have permission to plant. I am attaching a photo of now, with the trees bloomed and you can see there is quite the canopy . I was thinking 4-5 ft transplants but open to ideas and flexible on cost. I assume as the trees get bigger they will steal sunlight but for the first few years shade is imminent in the summer. Keep in mind this picture was taken in the morning and after noon sun is behind my house so much more on this area in the afternoon, there are just the existing trees you see here that will shade the transplants until they get larger. Willing to try whatever, just looking for some good pointers on what to try first. Thanks!!...See MoreNarrow privacy screen ideas
Comments (11)not only will they not stop growing in height.. but also not in width.. etc ... unless you want to sign up for a life long pruning deal ....im getting too old for that to be fun anymore.. lol ... you said: block my view of their patio from my deck. I'm looking for a screen ==>>> then why not put in a lattice screen ... sink a couple 4 x4 or 4 x6 ... install some lattice.. and grow some vines on it .. annual morning glory ... perennial clematis.. etc ... think outside your tree/conifer box ... i doubt the solution is there ... and it can be done in one weekend .... and right up next to the deck ... you could still do the shrubs out there.. but you goal would be accomplished .... BTW .... how many hours of sun ... ken...See MorePaint/stain color for old deck with new skirting/privacy screen
Comments (2)Hi Joshua, Let the cedar weather grey. The wood will last a long time, will be virtually maintenance free, and look great. You do not need to match the decking with your interior flooring. Aesthetically, we prefer a contrast, but it's up to you ultimately. We have cedar porches in the Northeast that have been untreated for 20 years, weathered to a natural grey, and have no maintenance done to them other than sweeping and hosing to get dirt off of them.......See MorePrivacy screen tree ideas & progress
Comments (11)i went to franklin also ... class of 77 ... boy i hate going back to the 'city' .... i am amazed .. and dont buy for a minute.. Howell as z6 .. dont waste money on zone pushing z6 plants.. imo ... smargard is famously sold as multi leadered plants at big box ... snow and ice load can cause severe issues.. a decade or two down the line ... such as ... https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Thuja++splay+snow+ice+damage&t=ffcm&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images it usually happens a few years after you decide they are just perfect ... lol ... if you can find single leader plants.. pay extra ... which can be offset by going smaller .... you are not far from gee tree farm in stockbridge.. nor arrowhead alpines in fowlerville ... http://www.arrowheadalpines.com/ https://geefarms.com/ both used to be my go to places ... not cheap mind you ... and both worth a day trip ... though for you... its not that far ... besides.. your neighbors wont be there.. lol .... at gee's.. if you ask nice.. they will golfcart you over to the ten acre show garden .... or at your age.. just walk ....its not that far .... both have extensive gardens for touring ... besides the sales area ... but to be honest.. i havent been to either in quite a few years ... i hope they still do .... GG are not going to grow fast in shade .. and they are slower than advertised.. in MI.. considering 4 to 6 months of dormancy.. with frozen ground ... for 3 or 4 months .... ken...See MoreGN Builders L.L.C
