Mirror over Console table(Hemnes desk)

Hi,

I'm planning to purchase Stockholm walnut mirror from IKEA and place it on Hemnes desk to act as a console table. The mirror is 80cm (31 1/2 ") in height and the desk is 75 cm (29 1/2 ") in height. Is this mirror ideal for the console table? What is the gap i should leave between mirror and the desk? If it helps, the ceiling is 8ft. Thank you

I am guessing that you like simple lines and functional pieces based on your choice. The scale of the mirror relative to the table seems like a good pairing and I like the contrast between the linear shape of the table and the round mirror. You have also created contrast between the light and dark pieces which is always a lot more interesting than everything matching. You could also choose a more ornate mirror to increase the contract and create tension between the pieces. That also creates interest and prevents the space from feeling flat. Completely a personal choice.

I would bring a metal decor piece into the vignette, something in copper or bronze for the table top or you could change the knobs on the Hemnes to a brass knobs.

I would also look for lighting for the table as well. Try a large basket or bench for under the table as the Hemnes can seem a bit light in visual weight but that will really depend on the size of your entry. Storage under the console is never a bad option, especially if the storage is in the form of a bench.

Hi,

Thank you very much for the opinion and suggestions. It's helpful and i like the idea of having a metal piece on the table. i'll also add a basket underneath. Adding lamps isn't an option for me and we do have the ceiling warm lighting in that space. What else can i fill the table with?

Thank God!! Someone finally suggested her picking what she likes...I read all of this and just groaned...I was looking to get a simple suggested ratio for horizontal picture to a stinking console. Now I have an idea and I saw a lot of things that I would give me zero joy...But then I like eclectic items. So it's all good...I truly think the real key here is to go with what makes you happy and what gives you joy. Someone else may not like it, but it's not their place... as soon as we quit worrying about what other people think about our decorating, then each person's personality will find that perfect mix... (Oh, remember, on your console, be sure you leave enough room so that one of your babies can curl up on the end nearesr a window or the front door to help be the official greeter ...like Wal*Bark??...Sorry, I don't know where that came from...)

I may get another mirror table top but I still need the big mirror for my hair and things. a lil mirror will not do just for my makeup etc. I always said the writting desk was going to be use as vanity and act as a area you can use for your laptop. I agree with the console table. I am thinking about doing like a rectangular gold dish and a orchid plant. I wanted him to place the TV at that height just in case I was going to add some type of tall vase or pillars candles.

DK- Last year one of our cats ate my entire ASPCA approved pet-friendly palm plant. He ate little bits at a time so as to not raise suspicion. When all was said and done, we had spent $5,000 in surgery & vet fees to have the contents of my plant removed from Hobbes’ lower intestines. I love love love the look of real plants in any interior space. If I could, I’d fill up my entire house. Unfortunately I can’t risk endangering my babies again. I don’t know what’s wrong with them lol. The other day my husband dragged a leaf in on the back of his work boots. @JustMe uggggg stop sending so many good ideas lol. So, I actually wired and have power waiting if I ever did want to add a light, but I love how open and clean the line of sight is from where I am (front door-ish) across the house so I never installed a chandelier. With regards to moving table 90, and relocating the console, I guess it could work, I haven't tested out that setup.....Ill have to run it by the wife, empty the mother effer (its heavy) and decide if I have the energy to move it just to get a visual lol. As far as couch off the wall, I don't mind that too. I was going to add a chair anyway with a coffee table, cant I do that as it is? Is adding a couch console too many? Need a mirror, is having artwork or mirrors on all walls a bad idea? Just when I though I was adding sconces and done.......

I would include items that group well together. See pics

I like the black with the brass. If you aren't into brass you could use brushed chrome or go with a combination of matte and gloss black but make sure the basket has a balance of light and dark like the mirror and table. :-)

Sorry you need some height on the table and if you have room beside the Hemnes desk you could add a topiary or some type of greenery.
