I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. I can't get the photo to show up but it sounds from the link that you ultimately want to have a shower head, a hand shower, and a tub spout. We just did this. Here is a non professional explanation (so take it with a big grain of salt!). I relied of a plumbing person to ensure we got all the various pieces we needed for inside the wall, and we used one knob that did water temperature and volume, and then another knob that determines where the water comes out (it's a five way Diverter, so we can do spout, spout and shower, shower, shower and handheld, handheld). I am not using the correct terms for these devices, sorry. I think there are two choices for the temp/volume device, depending upon ihow you want to do that (ours is two dials stacked on top of each other, one is volume, other is temp). But there are other ways to do that part. You can get any brand of valve trim you like, as long as it coordinates with what mechanisms are inside the wall (we have Grohe hand shower and shower, delta valves and a Delta spout, sounds awful but we liked the appearance of those pieces). If the tub or faucet came with any manuals, give them a look through and see if they contain any pertinent info. If they are of no help, have the tub # and plumbing model #, call Hydrosystem at 661-775-0686. That's the number I have in my files. Time zone? They are in CA if I recall. Good luck!

Hi, We are going to be having a freestanding tub in our master bath. It is a modern home that we are in the process of completing. Never had a tub before so want some input on the models we are considering. There is a niche at 36" right next to the tub so tried to make sure that the tub faucets stay below that. The niche is about 34" wide in the middle of the tub which is 64" wide and 21" high.
