Placement of Dormer - Would like your opinions!
Comments (30)I like the idea of one big centered dormer....not necessarily a shed dormer - you could keep the gabled look but just make it big enough to straddle both the window and the door. Of course, that adds a lot of space and almost gives your house the appearance of a 2-story house instead of a one story with dormer...but I think that would look the best. 2 smaller dormers would look kind of busy, I think. If you've got to choose one of the three, I agree - 1 or 2, but not 3 - that just looks odd....See MoreWindow treatment opinions...think I made a mistake :(
Comments (33)Love your new blinds, both for adding more view and light to the interior and continuity with the siding to the exterior. May I suggest that you consult with other GW members regarding the sheers as side panels. I think you need a fabric with more "heft" to balance out the weight of your upholstery fabric. Hang the panels floor to ceiling just on the sides so that they just barely cover the ends of the blinds. Also, adding a fabric with pattern would bring some interest and life to the room. These suggestions may be out of your comfort zone but please check out houzz and gather opinions. Home Depot and Lowes are other options that have nice ready made side panels....See MorePlacement of new dormers, opinions appreciated!
Comments (3)Vith - I had thought about doing a large dormer. I do like the look of 3 separate ones vs one larger one a little more. And this way we won't be cutting into any walls. In the drawing the middle dormer is shown overlapping the master closet but we aren't actually going to cut in there we are going to add framing to the outside to make it centered over the door. palimpsest - Thank you! I really like what you drew up. I felt like something was just off about the original drawing yours does look a lot more balanced! I hadn't thought to enlarge just the one on the side and keep the other one smaller....See MorePlease, I need Roofline/Window placement Ideas for this houseplan!
Comments (10)@laurafhallen. My big concern is the esthetics of the front exterior. The roof pitch...shed dormers window locations etc. I’m definitely going to play around with the floor layout. The room with 3 beds is actually pretty large and since I anticipate it eventually having only 1, maybe 2, occupants I will likely downsize it. The smallest room will be used as a nursery and eventually an office :) I’m considering having the continual roof ridge run from back to front over the garage to master room...like:...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
