Others may disagree but I think they are comparable if installed correctly. Trane tends to be more expensive. If you get Daikin make sure you know what you are getting - they make Goodman and Amana, too. Warranties differ.
Depending on what you buy in the Daikin / Amana / Goodman line I believe the warranties are better for the Amana line.
But the better warranties for Amana come with the upper product line. If you're buying an entry level machine 13 or 14 SEER... it really doesn't matter.
Trane isn't necessarily more expensive up front (depends on what is selected --- you have to compare apples to apples and know the difference). It is mostly on the back end when parts start failing and the system is outside the warranty window. Trane charges premium part prices.
Lennox, Carrier, Am. Standard part prices are similar in that of Trane on the back end when the warranty window runs out.
You're better to choose a knowledgeable HVAC contractor not a brand. You will always need a good HVAC contractor. (one who can repair it when it breaks.)
Not all HVAC contractor's are created equal. Anyone can 'do' air conditioning. All you need is 25% of the knowledge required to do an 'install job' --- it's the 75% of the knowledge of not knowing 'what not to do' that can cause your 'great deal' of an air conditioning installation to turn into not so good of a deal as few as couple of short years later.
Austin Air thank you. I agree the contractor is very important. I have had four companies come out to my house and they all seem to have a different opinions. What it comes down to is all the companies are selling different manufacturers. One is selling Daikin, american standard, trane and Lennox so of course they are going to be pushing their product over their competition. I am in Jupiter, Florida if you know any good trustworthy companies. thanks
It's really a judgment call on your end. Reviews can be faked or worse yet 'paid for'.
Each brand is competing for market share so the claims made are often just saying the good, and nothing about the bad that often happens.
Because you're in a high humid climate as well as a possible sea coast location (salt spray). Makes this possibly more challenging.
I think your decision should be made based on the features of the equipment you want. Thinks like dehumidification, efficiency etc. If you have electric furnace you should look toward heat pump options.
Because Florida is a warmer climate makes it a perfect place for heat pump. Then you want to find out which contractor is the most knowledgeable. Ask questions. Look for little things like do they show up on time, do they reschedule? Don't seem to care?
Just little things like that. Because over time, those little things add up and in more cases than not, those little things become worse over time.
Use your best judgment. And select equipment based on the features you want in a home comfort system. Make sure who ever you choose has the technical skills needed to service the equipment as well as repair it when it breaks.
