Comments (98)It's understandable that Taos Pueblo requires a camera permit. There are hordes of people traipsing through this ancient home and ceremonial site on a daily basis, and the required permit is but one way for the Puebloans to try to exact some control over how visitors conduct themselves. You would truly be amazed at the audacious acts that entirely too many "guests" commit while visiting. Those who cherish the pueblo have a right to expect respect -- to not have photos taken of people and places where they have not given consent -- and this is one way to drive that point home. (One doesn't have to buy the permit in order to visit the pueblo, however.) Acoma Pueblo also requires a paid camera permit (most active pueblos do). I don't mind paying these fees one bit, considering that it has allowed me to experience cultural ways that are on the verge of extinction. There is so much beauty, mystery, and magic in these places IMO....See MoreShow us Autumn Where You Live!
Comments (66)Nice staghorn, Nancy! Mine has not been doing well after many attacks by squirrels, but I hope it will come back. Here is mine in the upper left corner:This is a new dendrobium (I think) that we got at Trader Joe's. These stay outside all year, but I bring them inside in the evening when blooming. Hibiscus in the front yard in autumn colors. Cymbidium in the back yard with autumn colors. My yellow one is about to bloom, but it usually does not start until late November or early December. It stays in the back yard, as it is too large to move.Pitaya (dragon fruit) getting ripe. I'm only getting three this year :(. Epidendrums blooming in the back yard. These flowers last a long time, but they also have to stay outside - the plant is too tall. Epiphyllum blooming in October plus November. It also blooms in April-May, but many only bloom once a year. Bromeliads in the pergola. Some of these bloom more than others, and some will only bloom every other year, but the flowers generally last for several months.More bromeliads. We moved the one in the center from the side of the yard to the pergola, as the leaves were getting too much sun. This plant has produced so many pups that I don't know where to put them all. I do not have any fire photos, but I could see a tiny bit of brown smoke from where I am. I'm about 12 minutes from Venice, which is where Nancy lives, but we have not met. I lived in Venice on Abbot Kinney Blvd before we moved to Westchester, where we could afford a much larger house. Our house in Venice was only 900 sq.ft. We've had endless news coverage of the fires, especially the ones in Ventura County and Griffith Park....See MoreMy Wild, Wild West! (Lots of Pics!)
Comments (41)We deal with many of the same critters, except no wild horse wandering the streets in suburban Los Angeles! We recently checked out a lot in FL, a golf course community with the typical ponds/lakes. As we were walking the lot, someone pointed out the alligator in the pond! I can deal with predator mammals ... but alligators are a whole different level of predator! I then googled "can alligators jump fences" and there are several videos of alligators climbing chain link fences. Yikes! We made sure that the community will allow fences, but I think they have height restrictions and 2 of my dogs can easily jump 6 ft fences and one of them loves water. We are going to have to adopt a whole new/different routine to keep them same. For now I'll just enjoy worrying about rattlesnakes, coyotes and mountain lions!!!...See MoreSanta Fe peeps mini GTG
Comments (11)Hi Lynn, Yes, I know ... you have a big state! I looked at the opera season for next summer and I am not sure if we will go in 2020 ... none of my faves scheduled. We do particularly enjoy opera out of doors and people have told us Verona, Italy is the spot for that so we are actually looking at that for 2020. We did indeed have a wonderful trip. I love just strolling around old Santa Fe. And we always have delicious food and this time was no exception. We added the Teahouse on Canyon and Clafoutis to our repertoire, and returned to Geronimo's, Vinaigrette and Counter Culture. Went to the 10,000 waves spa for the first time and really enjoyed it. We had a drink at Los Poblanos (K was closed) and a very good meal at nearby Farm to Table in ABQ. The highlight for certain was La Boheme and our tailgating with Mr and Mrs 3Katz (complete with table linens and wine) on a beautiful night. They are a great couple and we had such a nice time. The DH's even enjoyed a golf blind date! For those of you who don't think you like opera, a highlight from La Boheme (btw most live opera performances include subtitles if you are not fluent). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkHGUaB1Bs8...See MoreRelated Professionals
