Light mold/mildew dots on plants spreading -should plants be pulled-up

I'm in London, a mild part of the UK. My garden has a fair amount of shade but also dries out quickly as I have most plants in raised beds and pots. The paths do get mossy, though.

I had these white dots on a potted foxglove for the first year without concern; they still grew ok.

I planted it in a sunny raised bed the second year to flower after which the yellow spot issue is spreading. -Very rapidly of late.

It's affecting tomatoes, artichoke, dahlia, delphiniums, a weed and some other flowering thingies.

I'll up some pics.

Should I pull up and destroy all contaminated items?

Could they be composted?

Since nobody answered...... These photos don't show what looks like mold/mildew to me. 1st and 4th photo made me think of spider mite damage or even possibly thrips. 2nd photo looks like insect damage (possibly flea beetle). 3rd photo looks like a fungal issue. Last photo looks like leaf miner damage.

Thanks Party Music, I think I'll chop/dispose of the worst bits (past flowering anyway) and monitor the rest. Spider mite only usually a problem in as the usually cool UK weather keeps them in check.

Hi - In spring spray your gardens with 1 part skim milk to 9 parts water. Tests some years ago showed that this stops powdery mildew from forming - this has worked for me for years. This spring I didn't get around to spraying the gardens down and sure enough my monarda, asters, phlox, dahlias, lilacs and anything in the mint family got great coverings of powdery mildew! This also works wonders for keeping PM off grape vines. You can use only skim milk - it makes no difference using the higher fat content milk - except that it reeks! I had a peonaflious that had rot on the base of the leaf. I treated it with Bayer Advanced All-in-One Rose and Flower Care. It stopped the rot and the rotten part dried up and I didnt lose the leaf even though it rotted about half way through the base! Neighbor wants my diseased plant matter for his compost

Hmmm, it has been really quiet on this forum lately... I don't know that I have good advice to offer. I've yet to succeed in convincing my neighbor that it is racoons that are digging in his lawn and tipping his trash cans, not the other neighbor's (or my INDOOR) cats. Nor have I persuaded him to do something other with his cans so the racoons don't have access...and don't keep spreading his trash in my yard... I suppose that you will just have to explain to him how composting works, and that trying to inadequately compost diseased material will just perpetuate the diseases. Oh, wait, it sounds like you already did. Point out to him that you DO compost and you can't compost this stuff? Maybe mention that it is a tenet of organic gardening to NOT compost diseased materials if you can't run a hot enough pile? About the trees--maybe if you can offer him some native seedlings, or direct him to a cheap or free source, to replace the invasive, non-native trees of heaven (making sure to emphasize the non-native and invasive) that would do it--did he plant those, or are they volunteers?

Carolyn: Thanks for responding. I'd love it if you could figure out what's going on. I plan to see if my county extension can help, too, but I can't get to a phone during their hours for a few more days yet. I don't have a measurement for the humidity, unfortunately. I can say that in my house, a drink with ice develops condensation, my hair does not get staticy easily, and when the outside temp is around 20 or lower, my double-hung windows have condensation in a one-inch strip just above the joint between upper and lower windows. Until this week, I had the grow light sitting on a milk crate, so the light was hitting the plants from straight-on, sunset style. I finally got my ceiling beams located and some hardware installed and the light has been pointing down for about 4 days. It was when I moved things around in order to hang the light that I saw the white patches and how bad the aphids were in some spots. I've been spraying with soapy water so much now, the humidity may have increased! (Only one tomato had a lot of aphids, but I'm spraying that guy and all the non-tomato plants twice a day now) Thanks a lot for any help you can give, zeke

Looks almost like sunscorch on the first pic, but not on lower pics. What has the weather been like?

None of it is mildew. Remember you had almost the hottest temperatures ever in July, plus a long period with no rain. Stuff has suffered and is easy pickings for pests and diseases.

Is that a wild flower collection you have there? Do I see campions? Ox eye? Knapweed, perhaps? The foxgloves look no worse than usual at this time of year. Cut them right down or even chuck them. They're biennial or short lived perennials and never last long.

In fact I'd cut them all back if perennial and chuck completely if annual. Natives don't flower for long periods and traditionally would have got the chop at hay making. Pic 5 appears to be black nightshade which is a weed. Ditch it. In future water if we get another hot dry spell. And I wouldn't hesitate to compost it all.

How encouraging. It's piddling sown today for a change but I will chop the digitalis which is biennial but provided a sea of seedlings. And yes, I don't mind a bit of Oxeye daisy and even thistles and nettles which others consider weeds. Good for the beasties which I tolerate. Thanks.
