a couple of houses ago, we had both his and hers walkin closets in the master bathroom. they both had doors, but i don't think we were very specific about keeping them closed...sometimes they were opened when we showered, sometimes they were closed. we were in that house for 6 years and never had any problems. we did have airconditioning, but we didn't have an upstairs zone, so it wasn't real effective upstairs. i actually loved having the closet access from the bathroom...it seemed so much easier to get clothes hung back up, etc...now they have a tendency to get flung over the tub side!!! (tho i promise myself when we get our bathroom remodeled i won't do that anymore!ha!)

We worked with our trim/built-in carpenter for the closet lay-outs (so it was way past the framing stage...you have time! :) ). The children's rooms are upstairs with 9' ceilings. We planned for the future with my dd's closet. She is only 8 now, but I wanted her to have a teenager's dream closet/dressing room! The carpenter put two rows of hanging space with shelves above on one wall, a more "medium" shelve with hanging space for dresses on a second wall, then we built two walls of "cubbies" including shoe cubbies, and enough for jeans, sweaters, t-shirts and cubbies with baskets for underthings, belts, purses, etc. Basically, she won't need a dresser in her bedroom at all. I was really happy with how much storage we crammed into the space. I plan to store her luggage on the highest shelves, and I will keep a little step stool in there. Ds's closet is certainly not as elaborate, but we did include storage up high for luggage, etc. We had 9' ceilings in our old house, and accessing things was never an issue. Now...downstairs in MY closet with the 10' ceilings...this is a different matter! I will need a ladder! lol!

LL-I was thinking the same thing - how does RedLover do it with no closets...huh?!?! :) Our old house had a closet window - up high - NO uv coating, did not vent and it most certainly DID fade our clothes (which I keep mine until they are just about falling apart and sometimes wish they didn't last so long so I could do some shopping without guilt) - ooops sorry for the little therapy session there. Our new house master closet will also have a window in it but it vents and is connected to our master bath and laundry room so I am hoping it will be a positive. It's a good quality energy efficient window and hopefully will not produce the fading effects of our last. It does face front but we are on a wooded lot with much privacy and will likely have a light filtering blind on it for privacy as well as just to be SURE it doesn't fade our clothes. Trade offs I guess.

Red Lover (love your name). I changed jobs & schedules about 18 months ago allowing me what I consider a normal schedule. I was able to get into an good exercise routine (1 hour Mon-Fri) and cut down on so much eating. I vowed to lose it nice, slow and steady. If I had a treat, I'd have a bite or two. I lost the 1st 50# over about 10 months. Loving summer fruits, I decided to just maintain. I'm getting back into loosing my final 15#. I'm now working out during my breaks at work for 45 minutes over the day, and cutting down to around 1200 calories. I'm guessing the rest should be off sometime around summer 2014. I'm down to a size 4. Before I said I was a one size stretch all. I would never buy form fitting clothes, so I truly don't know how large I had gotten. SJhockeyfan - for some reason I can't click on your link. I have problems at times though I didn't for Tuesday 2008. We've been using these kind of pant hangers for years when my DH had a ton of dress pants for work and I don't know why. I do know that though it takes up more vertical space, it takes up less horizontal space. I had placed a few pants to the side that were out of season, or weren't quite fitting and folded them over a hanger. I noticed them after I took these pics and replaced them. They seem to bunch up over a hanger and crowd other clothes. It works for us. Dedtired the ones on the right are so old, I really can't remember where I got them, I guessing Wally World (Walmart). They no longer carry that particular style but now sell the ones on the left. I want to get some more pant hangers like those to match. I think in part our closet looks tidy because of the uniformity of hangers. We've got a few oddball hangers left but most match. Tuesday_2008 - I didn't see those at the store. If we were to use that size, we'd have even more boxes yet (I don't know if I have 14 categories as it is), plus they are too small for the bins we have (not shown).
