Need range hood recommendation
Comments (4)Many thanks for the suggestion. That was my first choice initially and I was going to purchase the vent reducer adapter (3 1/4 x 14 to 3 1/4 to 10) until I found out the adapter would significantly reduce CFM and increase sones on the 661. I cannot alter the vent size or shape, and thus am stuck with a 3 1/4x10 vent....See MoreRange hood under mount
Comments (1)I would not trust screws only into the cabinet bottom. Build out the wall behind where the hood will go, using lumber, so that you can also screw into something solid along the wall. Better yet, find a deeper hood......See MoreUpgrade under cabinet range hood to wall-mounted range hood
Comments (11)Hello Houzz Community! I found this thread when Googling a similar topic. I'd like to replace my under cabinet hood with a wall mounted hood, and yes I know I have to remove the cabinet above the current hood which I'm fine with (see photo). My existing under cabinet hood vents out the wall to the side of my house - see photo, and note the vent is not blocked by those shrubs, there is space around it, you just can't tell from the angle of the photo :-) So my question is....can a wall mounted hood be installed to vent out the existing vent in the wall, or does a vent need to be created in the ceiling? Also, what type of professional can help answer any related questions I have about this? Would I ask the wall mounted vent manufacturer? Or a handyman? Thank you in advance for any guidance! I am a newbie homeowner and am learning as I go, so truly appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with me!...See MoreRecommendation for a reliable 30" wall mount range hood under 500 cfm
Comments (2)MUA requirements, based on the IRC, start with blowers rated over 400 CFM. Blower ratings are in free air, and not in a hood system, so such systems will have only 200 -- 300 CFM actual flow rate. If the aromatic cooking involves pan temperatures causing peanut oil to vaporize or smoke, then the flow rate into the hood should be 90 CFM/square foot of hood aperture, perhaps a bit less with induction cooking. So it might be apparent that your hood aperture can only meet the flow rate by being no larger than a few square feet. This will be inadequate to overlap the rising and expanding cooking plumes possible from all burners on most ranges and cooktops. And we haven't even addressed reliability yet, although this tends to be an issue with inexpensive hoods with pretensions to electronic grandeur, where simple controls would be fine. Note that there is always make-up air, and it exactly equals the amount of air that flows out of the hood system. Even without safety considerations, or code considerations, if you want to operate the hood system at its best performance level, natural MUA due to house leakage should be supplemented, even if it requires only a duct and damper into some part of the house, unless the house is extremely leaky or your environment allows for normally open windows....See Morejuliacali
