Looking for ideas/suggestions for painting brick fireplace

This is my newest home. It's 3850 sf of living space on what I have turned into a 4 acre horse property. I want to get rid of this outdated brown brick and paint my double-sided fireplace. I am leaning towards a charcoal grey/soft blackish grey color like the black/grey of the attached pillow below. (The granite throughout home is brown and black. the carpet has speckles of black and the kitchen cabinetry is a dark brown). Any thoughts or suggestions or specific paint colors?

I would do a paint wash, rather than painting it a solid color, which to me, always looks a bit like fake. I really cant see gray in your house though, with your floors and furniture and kitchen.

I'd paint wash a color closer to your walls so it isn't just a big dark piece in a corner. Someday, when you decide to switch out your dark cabinets, you're not going to want to have to figure out how to lighten the brick.

Hello, We also have a really old brick looking fireplace that looked like this: It really made our room dark and look really old like an old cottage and not in a good way either. So my family and I resorted to painting it white so now it looks something like this: I love it so much more like this now. It just totally brightens up the room. Have you considered painting it white? It might look really nice. But I don't know if you can clarify this for me or not but I've heard that since we painted it now we can't really use it because it might melt the paint and such. Not like we really ever use our fireplace at all so it's not really a concern but you might want to check out the specifics of that if you wanted to paint it.

Some folks had me paint their fireplace similar to yours. Painted the brick red and cut the grout joints in with grey. Imo, it looked real fake and kinda funky. Of course the paint job itself was class A-1! :-) They were happy with it so i guess that's all that mattered. You couldn't see it from my house! If you decide to paint it, you might consider painting brick & grout joints all one color, monotone. Painting the grout joints to look like grout joints is a chore and is time consuming. It just doesn't cut it,imo.

We had the hearth removed...I can paint a room, anything more than that I call the pros! It left a place in the floor that needed covering...so you have that to consider. We were redoing the floor anyway - we had 3 different bricks going on in there - the floor was brick, the hearth was a different brick, and the wall was white-painted brick. (2 years on, we still refer to this room as the "brick room." Guests are baffled.) Plaster isn't flammable, so it can run right up to the firebox. To get it up, they firred up the wall, put in chicken wire, then started plastering. There's probably 1.5-2 inches of plaster on there. I'm sure it would chip off if someone wanted to get it off, but if you ever think you want to reverse it, I'd stick to sheetrock. I honestly don't know that it's a DIY - but many are more adventurous than I on that front. Most painting contractors can do this kind of work. Even up close, it looks pretty much like sheetrock. We chose the plaster so that I could go right up to the firebox, and then put the walnut cabinetry over it to emphasize the geometry of the space. Not for everyone, but this is my forever home.

I am thinking of black door total height of door and black trim. I am not sure about the stupid boxes. Looking at trying scale down and then copy the window stones trim with molding and paint to match the stone on windows and columns. Also, add very simple wrought iron in black both on balconies and first level. The flower beds are being enlarged and 2 large trees have already been added. Also, gutters in black will be added.

We painted our fireplace wall (all brick) black, using BM Black in Aura paint, matte finish. The primer was tinted grey since we were using a dark paint color. Used a big fluffy, thick roller cover to roll the paint, and while one of us rolled, the other used a brush to make sure all the grout lines were covered, and to brush away any drips. DH thinks it looks like leather, like something out of a Tim Burton movie. LOL

i had planned to research black brick stain, but got sidetracked and ended up just choosing paint.

We are very happy with how it turned out, and have no regrets. Perhaps a wee bit curious how it would have looked stained rather than painted, but that’s it. FWIW, we had a gas fp insert installed in it after we painted.

Use Romabio and have it mixed to match the color of your trim. Can totally DIY in a weekend.
