Install custom wood drawers into IKEA Sektion cabinets

I just had an IKEA Sektion kitchen installed but to save $$ I am installing the drawers myself. My drawers are custom drawers from Sherr's and I also bought Blum under mount glides to go with the drawers. The drawers are pre-notched and pre-drilled and are all wood and made for IKEA cabinets. I also bought custom fronts from Cabinet Face. Is there an installation guide anyone knows of to install custom drawers and fronts into Sektion cabinets? The main questions I have are:

Do the pre-drilled holes in the IKEA cabinets play a role in where you decide to screw in the glides? I'm wondering if these will help me know how to vertically space the drawers.
For those of you who have one the custom front thing, how do you know how to properly affix the fronts to the drawer box?

If the fronts and glides are specifically made for Ikea cabs, there should be no difference in installing them as Ikea's own parts.

So, go to the Ikea website and find your drawer, low, medium or high. scroll down to "assembly instructions" and click on the choices.

Below two Pdfs for medium drawers. (Look through both booklets from front to back , as everything depends on where in the stack the drawer is going to be installed, if it's going to be an inside drawer or regular outside drawer etc. It helps to understand the system, before starting to assemble.

You have to treat this as it was a typical wooden drawer/ cabinet box installation. IKEA doesn't factor into this much in this situation. Except pretty sure the hole pattern on the slides will line up. I've done it with Blum "Legrabox" their high -end metal drawers. If drawers are not sized correctly it won't work. 3/8" smaller than opening for 5/8" sides and 5/8" smaller for 1/2" sides. IKEA front connectors have nothing to do with this anymore. There are a number of ways to attach drawer fronts (not the easiest thing to get right) if you're asking then you probably need help. Can't see how this saves any money. It's a different look but that would be the reason to go this route.

I am not any further on the counter :) But I am still planning on using the ply as an underlay. Unless I don't, lol. The soapstone that I have on hold has a small ding in the surface. I can repair it by using epoxy and ground soapstone "crumbs". Then when dry it sands nicely and you really don't see it. I haven't actually bought the stone I have on hold, but its not going anywhere. They might have other remnants soon. I think I will drive there tomorrow and reassess the "ding" and maybe just go with it instead of waiting for something else to turn up. Just got the under cabinet LED lights installed today. I am still working on the crown at the top. I have one length in and have to cut a piece to finish it up. The space is to tight for me to fasten the crown as instructed. I am using extra strong velcro, that will hold 1lb/sqin. It has been working well for the top crown. I used velcro to attach the filler strips to the 2x4 backing at the ends of the cabinets too. It was great. The instructions for my style of crown have you attach the crown at the bottom of the uppers in a way that is not a good method. They have you directly screw through the bottom of the crown and up into the cabinet box. There is a narrow foam strip that gets applied between the crown and box which looks like it is used to block the gap between, so under cabinet lights don't show through. The foam works, but the screws don't finish flush. The screw heads are so obvious. I am going to back each screw out, one at a time, and counter sink the hole so the screw head will be recessed. Then I can cover the holes with a plug or wood filler. I would post a picture of my under cabinet lights but I haven't been able to post pictures for several days now. I don't know what gives.

Hi, I'm about to replace a 20 year old Ikea Akurum kitchen with a new Ikea Sektion one. We're planning to get everything new and not reuse anything from the old kitchen. Most cabinets are similar or better, but we have two corner cabinets with lazy susan and Akrum used to have a drawer and door on those cabinets, and Sektion only has a larger door. These drawers are essential in our kitchen, they are the most used drawers in the entire house. Has anyone installed a drawer in those Sektion corner cabinets? I could get smaller doors and drawers that fit, the only thing missing is the vertical board on one side of the drawer to mount it on. I could even keep the old Akurum lazy susans that have one level instead of 2. Any tips and feedback appreciated. Cheers, Alex

Not sure you have to adjust the holes. Just said you have that option if needed. You have to lay it out and test. I would get a few of the really inexpensive Haggeby fronts taller than you need and cut them to the size you want for a test mock up before I did anything. The bottom drawer will not change but you screw the front connector in different hole locations on any Ikea drawer.

Cherie, Oh, it was my impression from jdesign_gw that I could only do a two medium drawer base. Sorry, I am new to IKEA cabinetry and the hacks. I thought it had to do with the hardware. I figured they just didn't make it for the 5 inch or the 15 inch deep for the 21" wide cabinet. .Although I did see on the parts sheet above everything was 5 inches so it left me confused on how you could do anything greater than a 5" deep drawer. I am not familiar with how these are assembled so I don't know how the sliding hardware can or cannot limit what my end result will be. Ideally I would like a 21" cabinet with a 5'' a 10" and a 15". Can I do this by purchasing 3 sets of the 5" Maximera above and my drawer fronts to spec elsewhere? Is the 21" cabinet predrilled to accommodate this or will the installer need to drill holes to line up with the 5" Maximera?

Justin - I’d love to know how this turned out bc I’m also interested in custom drawer boxes and doors/fronts to go in Sektion boxes. Did it all work? What made you choose Sherr’s and why didn’t you opt for Semi-Handmade’s door fronts? Thanks!

It worked out really well @phoebs610. I think only the keen-eyed would be able to tell the difference. Of course my contractor didn’t like the idea because he wanted to use his own cabinet guy but I loved saving over $10k on my remodel over all. If I remember correctly, I didn’t go with Semi-Handmade because I wanted a specific kind of glossy white cabinet face and they didn’t have it. Plus, I think they were ultimately more expensive. The Cabinet Face in Colorado is who I went with. They were great. And I love my drawers from Sherry’s. They were great to work with and were we-priced for high quality, handmade drawers.

Justin, could you provide where the slides/drawers were eventually installed. I am trying to do the same with wood drawers from Sherrs. I have large drawers, medium drawers, and the inside small drawers
