The real measurement you are going to have to pay the closest attention to is the height of the chandelier. Your table is good sizes and can handle a large light but it cant be too tall due to your By height I don't mean the drop down of chain or pole I mean the actual measurement of the chandelier. For a linear shape chandelier and an 8' ceiling I think you are going to need to stay at 24' or less if your table height is around 36'.

These are the measurements for the PB one...if you need 18 inches to hang it and the canopy and celieng mount are one inch each, then it’s about 16 inches...so that would work and then we can adjust the height based on what we like??

For the pottery barn Clarissa chandelier you would want the large 40" one based on the length of your table 86- 40 =46 / 2 =23" of space at each end of table which is good. The depth of the chandelier 9" is narrow 42-9=33 / 2 =16.5" on each side. You will be fine as it appears the height is doable as well.

I have used the chandelier many times and it is a statement piece for sure. It will look nice with your dark table and chairs. For a glass chandelier you really can't beat the price.

Oh and if you haven't already I urge you to look at the customer submitted photos on their web site of the chandelier .

Do you think it’s too heavy looking? We had a much smaller PB chandelier in the past. I worry that the shell style ones are too flowy for me, but I don’t love the bad style ones either.

Bad style ones? I think the Clarissa lends to a more formal look with the glass drops than a shell one would. Are you wanting to keep it more casual or dressy?

While I like the PB one, it feels quite heavy in look for your beachy look. Sale price is nice, but only if it really works in your room. Tables are about 30” high and you will want yours hung around 30-32” above your table to bottom of chandelier. You have 96” from floor to 8’ ceiling so that leaves about 33” for chandelier. I like at least 12” of chain from ceiling so actual height of the body of fixture needs to be 22” or less.

The table is probably the most formal piece of furniture we own, and it’s not that formal. Everything else is casual with a subtle coastal vibe. This is the color palette for the kitchen, or somewhere thereabouts.

Based on your woven shades alone , which I absolutely love, I don't think the PB one is the best fit. I still love the Capiz shell one Flo found , but understand that shells aren't everyones thing. Have you ever considered doing two round chandeliers? How do you feel about beads? Two bowl shaped chandeliers would be pretty over that table too. Let me find some BRB

I like the idea of two rounds...but they are laying out the lighting this week, so I would love to know where we are putting things, even if I don’t know exactly what we are doing.

What about something casual like this? two of these over the long table would be nice and I like them with the other elements you've shares. Because the beading is white it would stay light and bright. I have the larger version of this in my office and I get so many compliments on it and well its dirt cheap to be frank!

Well I am two hours from the beach but still have a capiz shell chandelier. I wouldnt let your location necessarily determine your decor. Don't think of it as beauty think of it as coastal elegance ;-)

Here are the two chandeliers in your room. I think the white beaded one DIS posted would look nice with your white wainscoting but you might need two with the length of your table?

Hubs likes the idea of one chandelier...and I try to a accommodate his ideas when I don’t really have an opinion, because I have a lot of opinions :)
I think I am going to work with the idea of a single rectangular chandelier with an elegant, coastal vibe(credit to DIS for the swanky terminology)and just have the electricians plan for that...that will buy me some time to continue to look.
DK, at first I thought that had too modern of a vibe for me, but maybe the rectangular shape ties it back to the table and the kitchen island.

Sure. Yes a rectangular shape (not too big across) with capiz drops would work really well. Yes just one fixture simplifies install tremendously.

I have installed the West Elm one before. Its very pretty. I have to look up measurements it may be too short for an 86" table. If I recall correctly I installed it over a 76" table. One thing to keep in mind, unless they've changed it, each Capiz shell comes individually wrapped and it took about 3-4 solid hours to unwrap them!!!! It was a bear! But it is pretty especially with the lights on!

Yes, the West Elm chandelier arrived assembled with each shell strand tucked into its own tiny ziplock bag.. Install the fixture first, and unwrap the shells afterward. You'll want a ladder and some upbeat music.

We followed the same packing technique for when we moved....(Chandelier was a wedding present). I used small strips of blue painter's tape Not a single shell broke, thanks to God.

Is the West Elm too wide across from side to side for your table. You need 9-12” open from side edge of chandelier to edge of table.

Are you keeping those dining chairs or have you bought others? I'd want to repeat the lines of the dining chairs ...example

Yes, keeping the table and chairs...we’ve had it in two houses and it works with lighter design as long as everything else in the room is pretty light. I know it is a more traditional set, but I don’t think I want to go that traditional on the chandelier.

Those are all nice fixtures but don’t quite fit with your table and ceiling height. A rectangular fixture that isn’t too formal looking is direction I suggest you stay in.

I have a question for you. What was it that you loved about your old chandelier? I have suggestions for you below. I think since your home is getting a new fresh look and your kitchen table light will be the only truly decorative piece of lighting in the space I would not skimp on placing something that is going to have some wow factor for you. Moving to a linear shape is going to help with that because it will have more presence. I think keeping it lighter in a nickel finish is going to help with your lower ceilings and keep it lighter which will enable you go a bit larger than you are likely used to. Here are some I pulled off of Houzz. There are so many out there. But sticking with the colonial feel of your chairs think about something simple like a lantern style

You could do frosted if that is your preference. Or you could do clear and use a dimmer on the switch. You can see the lanterns here over my island and I have a clear bulb and no shades.

It will definitely be on a dimmer, so we can play around with bulbs and see what we like!

Devonfield, I love those in someone else’s space, but linear in my space, with my 8 foot ceilings, just didn’t work. I now know I need something round or oval, with something to soften the light, I don’t want to see bulbs if I can help it.

Do you have interlocking oval glass kitchen cabinet details or something else to consider and replicate?

If not, then the capiz shell wins IMO. It appears delicate and airy, and the design pattern does not fight with the classic airy backed chairs.

-The beaded light wood chandeliers compete with the dark wood chairs. Do you have a light colored wood buffet in the room?

-The crystal chandelier looks very heavy in comaprison to the airy thin railed chair backs.

-The bubble drum is interesting. If you love it, then get it. I don't care for it as it reads to me like happiness (bubbles) constrained (severe shade covering it)

Thanks DK! I am having total analysis paralysis with this choice and my hardware. Plus my husband has his opinions too. Just making myself crazy...we are three weeks out from having a functional kitchen again, so I want to try to get as much done as possible. I was initially drawn to the capiz shell, I guess I worry that it is too obviously coastal, but I think I just need to get over that and order it! I need to get unstuck on this and the hardware, it’s make me nuts!

DK after lots of time with female relatives this weekend, we decided that the swooping lines of a traditional fixture is the best choice. Which you suggested eons ago :)
