Comments (2)Put things there that you enjoy looking at, in my case, I kept my items low, because other side of knee wall is my foyer, and the donkey, holding oil/vinegar jugs, was my mothers, and so I cherish it, and did not want cake server empty so I made the fake cake for inside, the crystal cat was a gift from a dear friend, and the gazebo w/candle, is cute, I thought.. so play around with it till you like the results..also mine needed a scarf as slate finish top is very slippery....See MoreAnyone mix can lights with traditional fixtures?
Comments (6)A cheaper way of doing undercabinet lights is not to hardwire them, just plug them in. I did that when I moved into my house. I made sure all the wires sat flush to the cabinets underneath, using those little clips they make for tv/internet cable wire. (I don't know if there's a product that would have worked better, but I knew about these clips and knew they were cheap.) I carried the cable clips to right above where the fixtures were to plug in, working along the back of the cabinets, making sure there was just enough wire left to plug in, as I didn't want the backsplash are to look messy. It's not as nice as hardwired lighting, but it looks fine to me, and cost next to nothing. (I used very slim fluorescent fixtures, and they cost less than $30 each. You can also get xenon fixtures that plug in, if you like.)...See MoreLighting question
Comments (14)Thanks, Holly-kay...I like the bling of crystal, but I'm not sure she does...she didn't even like me leaning toward a fabric with a satin stripe.... Graywings and mtnrd, I'll make sure she checks with her electrician about if she'd be stuck with a cap or not...I think that would be true if they leave the junction box, but if they remove it, it may be ok. I suspect that just for easiness sake, she will leave a central fixture and just probably not use it a lot. I'll have to make sure she has that option, if she wants cans to highlight art, that she doesn't have to turn on the ceiling fixture too. It casts such awful light. I'm not a fan of ceiling fans anyway, they certainly don't look traditional to me, but, esp in a room with 8' ceilings, they always make me think of decapitation for some reason. :-0...See More90s Honey Oak Kitchen Refresh Help Needed
Comments (5)If your goal is to lighten up the house, avoid adding dark things to the already dark rooms. Add lighting, remove heavy dark window coverings, and check outside to see if there are branches that have grown to block sunlight from the windows. Pruning at the right time of year for your area can let in much needed light again. Start by replacing the light fixtures to improve the overall "dark and brown" look. Remove the over-sink bar cabinets. Paint the walls. Staining the cabinets can't be done well without stripping them, sanding, filling, staining, sanding, and so on. Contact the cabinet company with photos of the damaged areas. Ask them what clear coat can be applied over the existing finish. Chances are good that a clear polyurethane over a bit of stain pen will fix up those worn areas easily....See MoreMomofthree Ma
