Should I go with BM or Sherwin Williams for our new house?
Comments (8)Sorry bmh!, I kinda dragged this OT! * Both are good paint brands. Just make sure you make the right sheen/quality-level choices for each area of your home. * However your paint is matched, just make sure that you're happy with the sample. Use primed pieces of cardboard to ensure that 2 coats look the way you want...IN YOUR HOME SETTING! * Remember also that color-chips AREN'T PAINT (except for C2). Light reflects differently off paint than the printed color-cards. Chris, believe it or no, sometimes I do have to "tweak" our resulting sample-scans :-) ....adding a little red-oxide to "reduce" a green influence; or adding pthalo-blue to move a red towards plum. Scanners sure speed things up though! * Taking a day to build a sample by sight isn't an option most of the time. We always ASK however, but invariably the answer is "well, I'm in a hurry...". Comments (5)ProMar200 Zero is decent paint. I painted my house with the Eggshell (supposed to be Satin?) sheen over Level 5 smooth walls and love the look. This was a remodeled house with all new gypsum board. I have little kids that literally bounce off the walls and the paint is holding up well and touches up very well. The walls have seen dirty little fingers, pencil marks, a bit of blood from nosebleeds, impacts from flying toys,... you name it. It is certainly not top-of-the-line, of course. Cashmere is better quality than ProMar. I would personally do low lustre or pearl everywhere, but that's only assuming your drywaller leaves a perfect substrate. I'm not a fan of "flat" walls. Some SW products have less sheen than stated, but Cashmere is actually higher in sheen. Paint a 2'x2' sample on your wall before committing to a sheen. Good luck....See MoreBest paint brand/type for Sherwin-Williams paint color.
Comments (1)Sherwin Williams is a decent paint. I have used both it and Benjamin Moore. Personally, I will never buy Benjamin Moore again, but many love it and use it all the time. You also need to be aware that bases are different for paint brands, so you may not get the same exact color in another brand, so its better to go with the Sherwin Williams. Reviews are not always accurate. A paint job depends upon the prep that goes into the project. Also what kind of paint is on the wall right now. Is it the type that needs a primer? Flat paint is less washable than matte. Matte paint is less washable than eggshell. Eggshell is less washable than satin, and etc. The sheen you pick is dependent on whether you have little ones that often put hands on walls, and will need to clean it often. It is also dependent on the condition of your walls. Anything with a sheen will show wall imperfections more. Flat or matte, will not show the imperfections so much. Also, I would want some type of washability in bathrooms and kitchens and in my case, my hallway, which always seems to have finger prints for some reason....See MoreSherwin Williams Paint Type
Comments (7)They say the flat is as washable as any other of the line so IMO a no brainer I like matte finishes for walls. I am wondering why gray for all the trim it seems limiting to me when choosing a wall color. BTW that paint will still need a primer for new drywall....See MoreKara
