Annuals that can withstand cooler temps
Comments (11)Most of my "annuals" turn out to be perennials and they aren't bothered at all by our two "winter" months. Our average temps for these two months are 30s for lows and 50s for highs. These are the annuals that aren't bothered by low 30s nor light frosts and are perennials for me: Allysum Pansy (these die from heat in the summer) Wax Begonia Osteospermum (this one actually blooms year round) Pelargonium (zonal geranium) Cyclamen Kalanchoe Verbena The list goes on. Basically, 40 degrees F will not harm anything. Even Coconut palms can withstand 40F. The danger would be if you experience a late freeze, then some of the tender new growth can get burned. Here are two clumps of petunia that are going on their second year. They even had some sporadic blooms throughout December and January when we had 30s for lows. Comments (1)Mine are no-named yellow, but they have been puny all year. They finally put on about 6 blooms, just before Katrina. Now I don't know if it will bloom any more or not. It didn't bloom last year until AFTER Ivan. The peachy ones bloomed all summer both years....See MoreWill these Brugs do well in Florida or do they need cooler temps?
Comments (4)Thanks xeriscape and Bruggirl! Does it need semi-shade even after it matures? I ask b/c I have 2 Brugs that get morning shade till about 10-11:00am and then its full sun until late afternoon. They seem to love it and thrive...but I don't know what varietie they are...I guess they could be versicolors. I also have 3 cuttings (variety unknown) in pots that get the same sun exposure and they seem to be doing well and constantly putting on new leaves...maybe its just this variety? But,if you suggest semi-shade than I will try that and see if their happy if not I can just move the pots to a more sunny location. Thanks for the input! Breezy...See MoreBlooms from a Cooler Tuesday

I watered esrly this morning and got so hot,I almost couldnt get back inside. but made it finally.I plan to hook up my sprinkler later this evening, then wont have to stay outside as long..long enough to move it to a different locationjust hope theres enough water pressure to make it work right.I am in a rural area now, and have noticed there is not a lot of water pessure, like ii was always use to. so I will see, .., some time this week,i hope,...See Moresamhain10 - 5a
