house exterior help--shutters? paint the brick?
Comments (16)Thanks for the extra pictures -- especially the photo of the brick itself -- very helpful!!! :) So ...... perhaps consider a medium tone of gray that would work with the dark gray roof AND the tones in the brick AND the dark gray tones in the driveway ...... For the door itself -- consider a whiter tone that will bring it into prominence in the façade ..... The color of the trees really does help to emphasize the pinky-red tones in the brick and the driveway .... BUT ... rather than lose the trees -- do consider having those trees WELL trimmed and thinned so that the color is more balanced in your landscaping .... Comments (30)Mad_gallica: central Colorado All: The brick half wall goes into the brick about 8 inches at the points that are truly attached. It stretches across the left portion of the house where it becomes unattached again. At that point, It serves as a fence for the left 4 feet of the house in front of the dog run on the side. There is actually a real fence behind the brick wall there, so that's no concern if we were to decide to take it down. Attached are some additional pictures. The 3rd picture has an arrow showing where the wall is not attached again. To the comments about the downspouts we actually had gutter work done to correct gutters that were hung incorrectly. Out of 3 quotes, they all gave us two options either having the downspout where it was originally (running across the porch as you see in the first picture, which drove me mad) or moved along the side of the house in front of the wall as you see on my previous close ups. Running across the porch was awful and there was no way to paint it to disappear so I went with moving it. The middle pictures are old. The cedar is gone. The right cottonwood is also dead and removed (part of the reason for our working on the exterior)....See MoreExterior update on 70s colonial half brick- HELP!
Comments (8)Really nice house. Would not paint the brick -- not ever. You might consider removing the two trees leaning toward the house before a storm --wind storm and/or ice storm or even lightening -- puts them on your roof. While you already have room to create a portico, if you remove the two trees, you'll have plenty of room for a larger front porch -- either one will look good with forward facing gable with its ridge point the same height as the gable on the left side and it would be a good idea to make a decision on that before replacing the roof. If you've been considering enlarging the house to extend the upstairs over the single story section on the left end of the ground floor and/or adding a porch or room elsewhere, Decide that before redoing the roofing. If a new roof is needed, make that your priority. medium/dark gray shingles are as close to neutral as shingles get. Newer metal roofs now have an extended warranty. Talk with your homeowner insurance company and see if they can give you any information about how metal roofs age in your geographic location that might help you make your decision. Probably would not choose metal myself with that style house -- they tend to look better with steep roofs. Siding color you have is neutral and works well with the brick so if it doesn't need changing, wouldn't make that a priority....See Morehelp! paint colors half red brick half siding
Comments (0)Help! Seeking paint color ideas; aiming for updated traditional look. Would prefer to keep door yellow. Find current paint and black shutters drab. Pics show sun and shade, how it varies. Struggling for paint scheme that looks refined, updated traditional. And doesn’t call too much attention to the half brick 70s vibe. Not interested in painting the brick....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
