Help me resuscitate my bedroom decor!
Comments (5)The room is approx. 11' x 12', has (SW) corner windows and a small attached bath, which is tiled in the original 50s grey/burgundy. I think the vanillin is too yellow (a) for my liking, (b) for the quilt that my MIL kindly made for us and (c) to tie into the bathroom color scheme. The bed frame will stay. The cherry dresser, bookcase & nightstand--while I love them--were not purchased for that bed and do not work with it. I hope to replace them with more simply styled furniture. The blinds are a problem from the exterior viewpoint also, and will either be lined in an off-white or replaced entirely with sheers or some other off-white treatment. We took out the old white mini blinds and prefer not to go that route again (the cats loved bending them). I'm viewing the quilt as my fall/winter bedcover, and would love to get new, lighter coverings for spring/summer. I need help in identifying a wall color that could work with that quilt, contrast/coordinate nicely with the bed, and provide a nice backdrop for new white/patterned bedcoverings. This is the view from the hall door. The wall on the left is 11' The bed runs parallel to the 12' stretch And here's the bathroom Just to complicate matters :-) we may move to an adjacent room that is longer but also has a (SE) corner window set up. I'd love to discuss layout, but the color issue is most pressing right now. Thanks for any help!...See MoreMy bedroom decor took a u-turn now I'm lost.
Comments (27)I don't think you need to paint the bedroom furniture if you go back to the blue silk rug. With the dark and warm rug, I think it would be better in a least a cream or latte tone if not stained wood, but I think the white can work fine with a lighter rug, If the sofa doesn't need to stay, I'd probably prefer a pair of chairs and table or ottoman in front of the fireplace more than a sofa to the side, but you have the sofa. Move it over there and see how it looks under the window, whether it is too large to go across in front of the fireplace, etc. Then decide. Consider one of the round tables at that end of the room either as an end table to the sofa or between two chairs. If you want the piece under the window to be showcased, you have it in the wrong place. It has too much competition there -- a fireplace, the wood mantel, the black fire screen, a window and a dark mirror all competing with it. Is there room for it across from the bed if you also put a bench there? If not, I would try it at the end of the room where the sofa is but to one side. If you don't have anything under the spot with the painting, it could go into the corner of that wall and the wall where the sofa is. Are the drapes something you had and thought you might use or something bought for this room? You might be able to make them work, but to be honest, I'd like something lighter. Silk panels would look rich. I've seen smocked gauzy white than could take the room in a much different direction. I am guessing your French leanings would favor the silk panels.or long yardage draped across the window and down in an exaggerated scarf treatment....See MoreHi Designers! Comments (95)I'm going back and forth on adding in some small streaks of the green and bits of silver. Here's what I'm thinking as of now: 1) Base coat - Color match to the beige/light gray in the pillow that comes with set (see picture of forest green comforter I added above.) 2) Add a FEW streaks ("strie"- the vertical lines), of the green and light gray (or whatever the "beige/light gray" pillow color is). I would add maybe 1 streak of each every 7 - 8 inches. I probably wouldn't even be using a teaspoon of each color for the entire wall. I doubt it would even show in the pictures, but when one is in the room, they would see a very subtle lines of the green and light gray. And if I even change the comforter, I could just paint over the green and light gray streaks. 3) Add the metallic paint (something light and "pearly") as the final coat on the headboard wall. 4) Paint the rest of the walls in the base coat (the beige/ light gray color matched from the pillow.) I really like the "drama" of the forest green comforter against the light walls. I also love that large gold metallic vase in @Molly 's picture. Thinking of doing something like that in a pewter. Now just have to find a massive vase that doesn't cost $300+ dollars....See MoreHelp me finish my coastal bedroom, please! Flo, Beth H., HIWE?
Comments (25)This is the beginnings of a very beautiful room! That bed is absolutely stunning! I find your blue coverlet is clashing with the teal of the bed. Because the bed is the star of this room, I would use all white linens on the bed and use the blue coverlet across the bottom of the bed. The patchwork quilt I would fold and just have sitting on the bench at the base of the bed. If you have a bench, by the way, don't do the ottoman for the chair. For your ceiling light and table lamp, go with a style more current and not "pretty". And that's the same with other decor in this room. All your major elements of this room are already "pretty", if you add more "pretty" it will start to look sickingly sweet. Replace the ruffled pillow on the chair with something less "pretty". I would go with a plain cream upholstered bench to match your dresser and night stand. Let the bed be the star. Instead of the beige paint, I would love to see a very very soft blue or pearl grey....See Morecawaps
