DIY Interior Mural- Tips Needed

Has anyone painted an interior mural? Can it be painted over ordinary whiite house paint, like SW or does it need a special base paint if the mural is painted in acrylic? We plan to have white walls with stylized blue mountains and trees, like this ultra costly wallpaper. a shown below. The walls have textured orange peel finish that will remain, but I'm not worried about their texture interfering with the painting, as the finished product is not photographic realness

Penny-. Everyone was so helpful, but I really wanted De Gournay's look. I found a similar wall mural paper on Amazon, but it repeats every 48 inches and I don't want that. Also, without any reviews of the product, there is no way to know if a larger print of the item will appear pixelated/digitized. I really liked the De Gournay, plus I figure I can draw and paint it myself... background base color working to finer stylized details. Initially, it looked like a daunting monumental task, but once I examined the details- it is quite basic.

I use those 4' orange electic fence stakes from home depot (about $1 a piece)for lots of things in the yard & gardens. Pound it in the ground and then slide the PVC pipe over it and into the soil a bit. Set out several of these with holes drilled in the PVC pipe and string wire through them to make a fairly sturdy, portable & cheap trellis. I use these stakes to build easy fencing. I use plastic cable ties to secure wire or plastic mesh fencing to them. Because I dislike the orange and it stands out like a sore thumb, I paint my stakes black. Pound 2 rows of these stakes in the ground about 4' apart and slide each end of a flexible PVC pipe over them, making an arch. Cover this with garden cloth or plastic to protect plants. I "sew" the fabric to the pvc with fishing line. If you are using plastic, cut some flaps in it, to keep it from blowing away in a big wind. I use them to brace non secured retaining walls. At my old house I built a raised bed using them to hold the lumber together. I drilled holes in the timbers and slid them over the stakes, then I lined the interior side with heavy plastic.

not necessarily a bigger sofa will make a space seem too small as long as it's not too bulky visually, and actually fits and leaves sone breathing space I wonder whether you can find slim credenza to go under/hold that TV..immediate increase of storage, and better viewing angle both mirrors and art can help space to appear bigger as your eyes have where to travel that's why they always try to put at least something in a space when they sell..even an art or a flowerpot..your eye travels, your brain registers "there's distance here" a mirror will increase the light the most when it's on the wall perpendicular to the windows..:) (the opposite works too..but the perpendicular works best) as for the style..do you like the furniture that appears on the listing photo? if you do-that's a direction already let me show a link..they kinda try to define styles, very roughly, and give preliminary ideas where to look https://www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/decorating-style-defined#steps-to-naming-style and here's one of the quizzes..they're dime by the dozen but this is longer thus more fun..and my result is pretty much close http://www.lonny.com/quiz/QtaUILfam7S/MyStyleFinder+Quiz (I'm Boho Bravura lol..for whatever it means) I'd gravitate toward modern too...luckily modern is so versatile you can incorporate it almost allover the map pluses: -a) you're in Norway..should be a blessing for everybody who loves modern -b) modern is very in ..because , partially, people who owned it when it was big got old and their furniture hit the market-so huge sourse of good quality second-hand boho also has its pluses...it's much easier to pull it off on cheap..:) you collect..you collect high and low..and you have this careless attitude, you care less about formality or provenance or.. you can be a mix between several styles actually the majority of people are we're complex beings, that's why ok..I hope even if not finding the links helpful, you'll find them fun-already a great mood to be in when thinking of your new place

hollybar-- and anyone else with grasscloth wallpaper-- do you have any pictures you'd be willing to share? I'm considering installing grasscloth wallpaper either above or below the chair rail in our dining room but am intimidated as I've never worked with wallpaper before. I need some encouragement! Originally I was thinking of adding it below the chair rail, but we have 3 cats so that could really be a disaster. The first house I bought as an adult had wallpapered bedrooms where the wallpaper had been painted over. The house was built in 1900 and I guess at some point a previous owner decided to paint over the wallpaper rather than remove it. I actually didn't mind the textured look... It was kind of interesting. Which was good because I sure wasn't about to try and strip off layers of paint and wallpaper.

I love the tile and the peacock wallpaper! My only misgiving about that pretty tile is the grout and maintenance aspect. Will that be too much grout for you and is the mother of pearl tile too delicate a surface for your needs? The wallpaper is a winner but check the scale of the motif. The examples shown are murals. Will the peacock be whole if you order the smallest size, etc.? Also, check the size you want against canvas frame sizes before ordering to make sure it will be an easy wall art project. You don't want the wallpaper to be an inch narrower than your preferred canvas size, for example. Might be obvious but thought I'd mention it. :)

I would use wall paint. You can get white paint and a dark blue sample paint and lighten the blue as wanted or you can get different shades of blue paint samples.

Okay, makes sense. I had ordered a mural from an overseas company that I didn't have much hope for, but it looks good. I can find out the process if you want, but I think this is a case of ordering many samples to get the look you want.

If you're going for this (and good for you!) I would look into paintable wallpaper first as I have orange peel texture and it's not easy to even transition from one color to another (as in corners, both inside and outside)

However, the best thing about paint is that there's endless possibility for do-overs...

My experience with sample paint is that I've heard that sample paint isn't the same formulation as the wall paint...it's for color only. I also read that it IS the same formulation...so I suggest you check first as you want it to be at least wipeable. I've used it on small pieces but I always top-coated. Anyway just so you're aware.

Another idea is to reach out to a college kid...I'm sure they would love the work...

It depends on how bumpy the orange peel texture is, but that can pose an issue for sure in transferring designs to the wall. It softens and blurs edges, and distorts texture. You may want to skim coat the wall first.
