Living With Black Knot

Prunus serotina (Black Cherry) is a common tree on our woodland lot. Unfortunately, BK kills or badly disfigures most of them. However, there are a few that are not as susceptible and have reached some size. They are not grand specimens by any stretch of the imagination, but still worth having.

We've got a Black Cherry growing about 25' from the house that has put on significant growth over the past few years and is now about 30'. When it was smaller I'd prune out every branch affected with BK I could reach, but it's now too large to do this. BK still develops on small branches throughout the canopy, and I'm left wondering if this won't eventually weaken the tree. The main structure of the tree seems healthy, but I can't help feel this is a losing battle.

I'd prefer to let this tree grow on, but not at the expense of having to remove it in a few years when it will be more difficult and expensive. Thoughts?
