Comments (22)Ded and Maire-- I recognized that toy immediately. Funny thing is, there were numerous things like that that just never got tossed, and my grands are now playing with them. They are in perfect condition because they were really quality stuff. There was a brand that did house parties back then, discovery toys... and we have quite a few of those indestructible toys that still look brand new. Inspired by colors in Nicole's post (and everyone's really) and hoping this works. Roanoke Va entry...See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - Sa 8/20/22
Comments (17)Lars, it's neither. It's the Manhattan Bridge, I believe. It was misidentified in the picture's info. ETA: Not sure what's going on. The original file is named "Manhattan Bridge" on my pc. When I click "i" on the pic on my Ipad, it shows the name as Washington Bridge. Strange. That's the Brooklyn Bridge in the background....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - Sa 7/8/23
Comments (16)Today would have been my mom's 81st birthday. My adopted siblings decided it would be a good day to throw a surprise birthday party for my father, whose birthday is tomorrow. He's lived all over the world, and his friends are coming from all over. He's in very poor health. I'm really sad today, I feel like it's a last hurrah. When all of us are together I'm next to the youngest sibling, and I got told to bring the cakes. There's a sheet cake that will feed 50 but everybody wanted me to bring dad's favorite cake, a German chocolate cake, heavy on the chocolate. Et voila. It's a bit messy, like its creator. It's sort of devil's food like, and has chocolate buttercream frosting. The rest is pretty traditional...See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - Sa 7/22/23
Comments (16)My parents had peacocks - they had wandered onto their farm and took up residence in the empty chicken coop. They had just one male and one female, and the male came first. He was a bit neurotic and starved for attention and would strut for anything with eyes that would look at him. When I took my cats to my parents' house for the summer while I was at university, one cat (who was agoraphobic) would stare, frozen in fear, at the peacock in the yard when I took him outside. The peacock was thrilled that he was getting attention and loved to strut for my fear-strucken cat. Peacocks make excellent watchdogs - if anyone ever drove up into our driveway, the peacock would make sure that my parents knew about it. I never thought of him as bad-tempered - just a bit vain and in need of attention. I still have some of his feathers to this day....See MoreAlisande
