What does your contractor say?

it is DIY project. we just paid for fabrication but we are installing it ourselves.

How large is the gap, and is it completely flush or does it stick out?

gap is about 1 in. and it is not flush. the fire place is in 45 degree corner.

I know it’s a 45 degree angle, but if you took a ruler or something does the wall meet the stone exactly, or is the stone “flush” with the wall?

I have a corner fireplace and the stone sticks out about a quarter of an inch. Drywall goes completely to the stone.

probably the worst idea but some sort of trim or quater round type stuff? maybe a modern one or whatever style you are going for?

PS your beams are gorgeous, too!

Please post pictures when you are done or as you proceed. I really like the modern fireplace area with beams that are traditional but are more modern with the style I think you are planning.

If you decide to do a narrow drywall patch, consider how challenging the taping, muddling and sanding part of the project will be working with such a narrow fill piece of dry wall (like if it’s a 1” gap). You may need to cut out some existing drywall (to create a larger gap) add blocking to the existing wall joists, then add a wider piece of drywall fill, which you’ll screw into the blocking. Working with a wider piece will allow you to tape, mud and sand more easily (more substantial area to screw into, and more area to work in) to achieve a well done seamless look.

Any professional dry waller opinions out there?

Not a pro but I would suggest "Trim Tex Super Seal Tear Away L Bead." Plain L Bead would work but the Super Seal one has a gasket.
