How would you arrange my family room? pics
Comments (12)Okay. Thanks for the ideas. Caminnc, thanks for posting that shot. I did like the room that way. Everything is shoved around and squeezed together because my son wanted the Christmas tree in this room. Yes, the TV has to stay there because we have Dish, not cable, and the wiring runs down inside of that wall. No, the ceilings are not shiny, and I will change the fixtures as soon as I can. I am totally open to taking things out and shopping my house for something better. I have a small house and I'm running out of room, and I do need to edit. Hopefully, I will be able to replace some furniture down the road. I have been looking for a round pedestal dining table, which would probably be a better fit. I have been working on making some new pillows to add some color/pattern. I considered doing some my3dogs valances, but I think the long window is just too long....See MoreListing home soon - How would you stage this family room?
Comments (71)The point with paint is, pick your battles. Make sure the bathrooms and kitchens are completely up to snuff first, with a clean, well cared for look. Make sure the carpet isn't all ratty, and if it is, have cleaned and maybe get some judiciously placed area rugs. Entrances and exits, doors and windows looking in good repair, clean and fresh. Make sure the walls are in good repair. If you have all that, then repaint, sure. I'm not sure what percentage of people are discouraged by a bad paint job. Here's the deal though, I looked at a house that had been completely re-done, with the most outlandish and garish colors and finishes imaginable. The house was immaculate and maybe the owners loved it, but eeee gads it was so disharmonious to me and my SO that even though the price was right and the layout looked good, everything would have to be redone--paint, floors, surfaces . . . If your whole house is as assertive as the green color of your living room, then maybe yes, paint could make a huge difference. My SO detests green (I love it but that is one of the few areas we are not in agreement on) so he might immediately get a bad vibe with your living room. I love it....See MoreHelp - Our family room! Comments (9)Can the fish tank sit on top of the record player? Those could go between the windows. Personally, I would have put the TV on the wall right of the FP where you have the whatnot shelves and would have floated the two loves in an "L" out in front of the TV/FP area. The chair and ottoman would go in the recess by the closet for a quiet reading nook. Add a bookcase and lamp to flesh that out. You can still try that arrangement, but there is not much space for seating within easy viewing distance of the TV when it is high, smushed in to the corner and adjacent to the stair area, doors and traffic path. You might seriously want to reconsider the TV placement for optimal use of the space with your current furnishings....See MoreHow Would You Furnish this Side-By-Side Living Room and Family Room?
Comments (10)Thanks for trying to help. I will answer your questions which also helps me to think it through: no children, but visiting grandchildren. -it is not a new build, but a remodel of a 50’s ranch. The addition is the covered porch and the extension of the kitchen. -our “games room” (ping pong) will be in the finished basement. -my sense is that the family room is less formal than the living room and will be for relaxation and TV watching. Maybe incorporating a desk. -I could switch the family and dining but it would be an awfully large dining room that wouldn’t get much use as it’s just 2 of us most of the time. The addition will have large windows across the back. Lots more light than the room now labeled family. Planning a bench under the windows. Plus the new kitchen/dining will have a different floor from the rest of the house. If this helps and you have other ideas please share. Thanks again....See Morekatmiller0
