hardwood and tile mix??
Comments (11)It doesn't matter at all if you make a big deal of the transition. Rather than just the thin strip of wood like in Bill's picture, if you do a contrast strip that's made of both tile and wood, either the same/simlar design on both sides of the transition, or even a single strip of mixed tile and wood, you can make the transition really anywhere at all. There isn't a natural line in your layout. On the left it looks like it would make sense to tile the foyer as well and have it stop at the end of the stairs. On the right, it would make sense at the end of the fridge run, but then it's past the bottom of the island, which might not be a look you like. If you just do the L from the foyer wall to the fridge run wall, the kitchen will look siphoned off somehow. Like it was either supposed to be wood, or like the walls are missing. So decide on the look you want, and work from there....See MorePainting help needed, can't decide where to start/ stop colors
Comments (2)Looking at the shade of blue you've chosen, I would paint the stairway beige. (The blue might make it seem like a cave, and you certainly don't want use the brown, great color, but too dark for an entire stairway...) Is the ceiling in the kitchen freshly painted? I think the soffit would look okay painted to match the ceiling. If you want the seamless look, certainly paint it brown to match the walls. I tend to go with that opinion when I am asked for work. (I have my own small business.) Also, it's a bit easier! Looks like you have decent cabinets! Seems like a cute house!...See MoreBreezygirl-question for you
Comments (8)Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I have always planned on a eurosplash for my range wall. Tile from counter to ceiling, wall to wall. I like clean and simple lines. I didn't want a horizontal line of tile with a second material (paint) above. Too messy for me on that wall, and I'm afraid it would distract from my RC hood. And before you ask, I have no idea which tile I'm choosing. I haven't looked since my Dad died in May. I just haven't had the mental strength. I've been gearing up to make the long drives to the big city to visit tile stores, but with my recent stack of medical bills and the car breaking down on me Tuesday morning, an expensive tile purchase will have to wait. I plan to pick what I want and then wait, if necessary, to be able to pay for it. It's only been a year with a primed drywall bs. :)...See Morewhat kind of backsplash
Comments (2)tile as much of that wall as you can afford to do. the 8 gray stools are a heavy visual load. do something on the wall that shifts focus. what do you like? ...go to the tile store and push the boundary beyond the usual and bring home samples of things maybe you ordinarily wouldn't think of. set them up and see. texture/ color/shape/pattern/ are ways to get focus. with island width and so on I would strive to do the whole wall, as the scale you create w more tiled area will yield aesthetic benefit . shaped tile in strong color: colored tile dark tile in a pattern w grout contrast for emphasis...See Morecpartist
