Comments (20)Hi Joseph, and welcome! I love the look of morning glories, and have something of a soft spot for them since I first learned to cross stitch using a pattern depicting a morning glory wreath. I haven't tried to grow them on purpose, though, since until now I've always just had a little garden club plot for veggies, and community gardens often frown on fast-growing invasive vines. (We did get some volunteer plants one year, and they were so lovely that I *almost* didn't mind how they choked out my sweet corn & tomatoes -- if only there had been anywhere good to trellis them!) Now that I'm about to move to a house in Maryland with an actual yard for the kitchen garden and a porch & foundation planting area for trellising pretties, maybe it'll be time to seek out & welcome the morning glories. I just hope they don't take out the roses that my soon-to-be housemates are bringing over from their current garden! Everybody's pictures are certainly inspiring! I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I had no idea there were so many varieties, having only seen wild-growing volunteer plants up 'til now....See MoreHi. I'm new to the Sewing Forum and to sewing
Comments (10)Welcome Nancynancy.....I'm sure you will find yourself walking the aisles of the fabric store soon and coming up with even more plans. I must say you are on the right track with your new machine....just getting yourself familiar with it and what it can and cannot do. Practice away every chance you get...mend all those little rips and holes in anything you find, practice corners and straight stitches..dial in a few fancy ones and see how they look...play with the tension (but make sure you know where to reset it for your perfect straight stitch)...just play away. The more you know about your machine the more worthwhile your l0 hours of lessons will be. Practice filling the bobbins, try and make buttonholes, put in a zipper in some old fabric....and LIST any problems you seem to run into....then you can ask at your classes. Take your samples in and show them what you have tried....you really are on the right track...read your manual and play with your machine. Too many of us think we can just sit down and sew away before we even know how to wind a bobbin. Practice, practice, practice....that is the key IMHO..once again welcome....See MoreHi! I'm new and I'm confused about backsplash choice!
Comments (4)Hi! Thank you for your replies. I will definitely stay with the diagonal now. ngng: Your kitchen looks so lovely! I want wood cabinets in the next house. Mine were an ugly, grainy, weird oak so I painted them some years ago and don't have it in me to redo them again since we plan to move in a couple of years. remodelfla: My floor plan is not an open one. The kitchen/breakfast area is separate from the family room. However, I like way the bronze Fleur de lis picks up the bronze looking flecks in the granite. I thought about smaller squares of the granite used as an accent but wanted something a little different. It's so hard to only do a bit of updating! I start to get carried away as so much needs to be done, but I really don't want to invest anything (time or money) since we aren't staying here. But it's so outdated and yucky!! We rented this house before we bought it 15 years ago and only bought because I was having a baby when the owners put it up for sale and didn't want to face a move after only just moving in a year prior! I never really liked the layout of the kitchen or the floor plan of the house! And here I am 15 years later! Time flies! Thanks for your suggestions! It has helped me!...See MoreHi! Comments (28)A warm Georgia welcome to you, Kathleen. I'm a northern transplant from Ohio to Georgia and LOVE Georgia. I'm a retired elementary teacher and a crafter. Do you do any crafting and if so, what? I've been a member of the Kitchen Table since it first started. Hope you brought some chocolates with you....See Morebpath
