Vintage Stove - Modern Kitchen
Comments (4)I agree. The hood in Nosoccermom's first photo looks better. The chimney hood in the second one looks mismatched to the stove, and the very modern one in your inspiration photo looks really wrong. I love vintage with modern, too, but if the stove is going to be the star, you don't want to steal its thunder with the hood. If your range is white, you'd be better off with a duller colored hood, rather than shiny. Matte stainless (less shiny than brushed), cabinetry cover, or white. Also with a simple shape, either box or box with apron, or something that evokes the lines of your range, rather than a competing shape like the curve or the trapezoid (chimney). Your taste is what's important, of course, but my reaction to the two I mentioned as wrong is that they make the stoves look old, rather than cool, while by themselves they're very cool....See MoreMixing Modern Lighting with Traditional?
Comments (15)Thank you for all of your responses! Your photos are all great, I appreciate that you've posted them. Most of the time the juxtaposition works, I think, because you've all managed to find some common element in the modern and traditional, whether it be colour or lines. Yet there are others who've managed to marry completely different looks and the feelings the rooms evoke are completely different. There is something very special and personal about that. One poster admires modern art in traditional rooms, and I find myself in that camp as well. Upon entering such a room, it takes me completely by surprise - but then, a new synthesis is reached. I understand one poster's comment about respecting the house's period. We've always been conscious about doing that, while at the same time making it work for us. Thanks again!...See MoreChrome Vintage Stove - Mixed Metal Cabinet Hardware/ Faucet?
Comments (8)Hi Patricia, Thank you for the feedback! Maybe contemporary is not the right word? I'll edit my post. I basically like the look in the kitchen inspiration photos. I know this sounds crazy, but I kind of hate chrome...outside of my chrome oven of course. Do you have any other finish/ hardware suggestions that would go with a black and white/wood kitchen?...See Morecan boho mix with modern?
Comments (26)You say dated - I say retro LOL. But seriously, a powder room doesn't have to define how you decorate the rest of your house as I think of my bathrooms as completely discrete. For example, all my floors are wood except my bathroom floors are marble basketweave tile. I don't think the color even has to relate to the rest of the house. Many homes I go to have extremely "wild" powder rooms which are singular design statements. I do think if you are on a limited budget and have just moved in, you should make a list of what you want to change and then prioritize. No one can say what another's priorities are but for me, changing tiles in the powder room would be lower priority and I would probably make it work with less expensive design changes for the moment and spend money on other stuff in the house that improved functionality, comfort or that was more important in terms of the house as a whole in terms of design. You can always circle back to change the tiles in the powder room if necessary....See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
