Help! Can anyone identify what destroyed my watermelon plants?
Comments (12)Looks like rat to me. Watermelon seeds are too small of an incentive for squirrels. Get a cat or two! They are much better than dogs at deterring rodents because they are proactive. I have 3 of them and they spend 90% of their time napping in my garden: squirrels stay at bay, possums also ( except for one that they tolerate on the fence only - not on the ground-) birds do not pick my fruits or vegetables, no rats, no mice = peace of mind. With nectarines, apricots, grapes, plum, pears, tomatoes, cantaloupes, watermelon etc, in my garden, there would be rodents all over the place if it wasn't for them! If you do not want a cat as a pet, associations are giving "barn cats" they are neutered microchipped and vaccinated, they live in barns/sheds and they do their hunter job. But you need to provide a safe place where they can go when it is too cold or too hot, water, food, vaccines, and vet care. Mine are well fed and are spoiled pets so they don't "over hunt" and sleep on our beds. They run after pests but stop the chase as soon as the critters are out of the garden. Good balance. Squirrels are staying high in the trees ( I like squirrels as long as they don't eat my fruits) I keep a stepladder in between my tomato plants, the cat lays on the upper stair and the birds do not even think about my tomatoes: problem solved....See MoreCan anyone help to identify this house plant?

Comments (10)I’ve killed more succulents than I’d like to admit. Hundreds of dollars rotted or burnt to a crisp. Nonetheless, I am happy to report that I had maybe one loss this past year? I’ve learned to ignore the overall rules and adapt to what works for my succulents in my environment. I started out with succulents by ordering about $200 worth of sempervivums “hens and chicks”. For starters, they advertised echeverias on their pictures but I didn’t know the difference at the time. All I knew is that I loved the look and that nothing would grow on the south side of my house because of the intense heat. My semps came with instructions hardy to zone 9, plant in full sun. I lovingly did so along with two trays of sedum and they did very well for maybe two months until we started getting heat waves in May. It only took one day for them to burn to the point where they almost fell apart. And that was my first massacre. I finally learned to trust my gut after visiting my aunt who waters her succulents every two days, keeps them in part shade, doesn’t protect them from frost or heat and I realized she broke every single rule yet had the biggest most gorgeous succulents I had ever seen. So with time, I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t and I feel more confident in buying the more expensive succulents because mostly everything stays alive now. The one piece of advice that has always worked for me and I think it works for almost anyone is if you have any doubts on whether to water or not, then don’t water. It’s easier to kill from overwatering than underwatering. but anyway, sorry for the rambling. I kinda just wanted to say don’t give up and don’t be afraid to fail a few times....See MoreCan anyone identify this insect in my home?
Comments (3)Thank you for answering. I was most worried about those things. what are natural fiber clothing? Cotten? i haven’t noticed them anywhere other than this carpet. Could that be an area of concern? since we all play in this area of the basement, is there anything I should to to get rid of them or prevent them from entering the house so they don’t get into food or clothing? How concerned should I be that I found so many in a small radius in my house? I’m less concerned knowing these aren’t more scary insects. Thank you...See Moreparty_music50
