Imalm53 - I usually avoid offering opinions on color because its so subjective and personal, and because monitors affect what you see. But yours is one of my favorite kitchens. Plus I appreciated the step-by-step granite install photos that you posted awhile back. So here goes . . . I agree with some of the previous posters that bold colors would detract from your beautiful cabinets and granite. But I LOVE the colors of your accents . . . burgundy and yellow. Those are the colors of my kitchen. Sort of a mustard yellow on the walls with a burgundy rust on my window soffit. I love it for me, but I dont have the dramatic cabinets and granite that you have. (Its not done yet, so I dont have photos. ) I do like your idea of putting color on the fireplace wall. Hows about putting your burgundy on that wall, with your yellow on the mantle trim. Then using a softer coordinating color on the rest of the room. Then pulling those colors into your window treatment to tie it together. I was going to try to do a mock up but my monitor is playing havoc with the colors (getting mauve and some strange yellows). I just did a search and saw Benjamin Moores Pottery Barn Collection. Looks beautiful . . . at least on my monitor. Can you imagine doing some combination of this? Most likely the knobs just control electronics anyway, I don't know if any true mechanically controlled ovens exist anymore.

suezbell........ thank you for taking the time to share with me. I think my plans may be a little confusing. The refrigerator is being pushed into what is the current stairway area, and remaining space of stairway will be turned into a closet pantry. The tall cabinets beside the refrigerator are what I use as my pantry now. The stairway walls cannot be removed due to support issue and cost but the steps will no longer be used so we are having a floor installed and using the space to widen our kitchen. Only storage space being done away with is 3 uppers beside sink and cabinetry around the refrigerator. We don't use cabinet above fridge and closet pantry will be larger than the tall cabinets we currently have. The kitchen connects to our family room. You also access the stairway to finished basement and 2nd level deck directly from kitchen via the eat-in area. The once white cabinets are very solid but have yellowed. The builder said it is from the oils in the wood. We have had a couple doors refinished only to have them yellow again within months. Some will have to be replaced due to water damage under the sink. I would also need an oven cabinet as I would prefer a built-in over another range. I have gotten a rough estimate from a custom cabinet maker to build a few replacement cabinets. If I were to keep the cabinets they will have to be refinished as they have yellowed in areas, another expense to consider if keeping current cabinetry. I am in the process of getting quotes for new cabinets through other resources. Would love drawers in my kitchen.

Yes but its not just the desired look. If cost is not a factor, anything is possible. But if you have not done a lot of remodeling, you may not be aware of all the associated costs with changing all this. The ceiling, the lighting, framing out the window and wall, matching and replacing the existing exterior. While maintaining the exterior design balance. Moving plumbing, gas and electrical. Your house was built for this kitchen so everything you are considering has major expense to change. You might be better off as far as function and design to bump out the back and redo the whole thing.
