Comments (15)A polypropylene rug will resist staining and be easy to care for. It should be 4 feet wider and 4 feet longer than the table to leave room to pull out chairs. Rugs USA is having a huge sale now and esalerugs.com has free shipping and returns. Choose a rug first and then pull a color from it and add a fixed roman shade to your window to add some softness. I think chairs with some upholstery will soften the space as well. Or you could do something unexpected and add colored metal chairs. These metal bistro chairs come in all sorts of colors and are fairly reasonably priced. I've also been loving these french bistro chairs....See MoreArea rug colour in bedroom
Comments (3)Try an area rug that has yellow, gold, brown and gray in it. I love the whimsical rug kulrn posted, but other rugs with some warm colors in it in addition to gray would also be good. You need some warm colors in this room to play off against the gray and give the room some depth and complexity. Art is another good way to achieve this....See MoreDoes anyone have the oriental style shrike green area rug?
Comments (11)Holly, I do not have a picture. My things are in storage until I move into my new place in about 5-6 weeks. But I did use it in the bathroom for a while. Patricia is right about polypropylene rugs looking cheap. You can tell the pattern is printed on but I didn't want a good one for the bathroom. In my new place it will go outdoors on the porch. The railing and outdoor carpeting is brown, a color I loathe, and I eventually want to paint the house a pistacho green with forest green shutters and trim. The porch railings will be forest green so a temporary solution until I can afford to do all that painting is having this rug over the brown carpeting. (Painting the door emerald will be nice too.) The cost was so low on sale, about $35, that I don't mind that it will probably fade and certainly wear out. I will replace it when that happens. Just know that because it is polypropylene and inexpensive it is never going to feel like a good wool rug. But buy padding and it will help the "feel" of it on your mama's feet....See MoreHelp with floor colour & style
Comments (6)@kculbers That looks lovely! What colour is it? There are different names in Europe to the US but i might find similar. I think I've been trying to match a very neutral tile to a 'fake' wood, and that's the problem becasue wood isn't pale beigy/white naturally! I need to be brave and go a bit darker i think, so that there is a definite contrast and then the flooring will feel like a deliberate choice as opposed to 'just flooring'. It's not cheap! Also i think a deeper oak is more mid mod than the pale tones I've chosen. Thanks for sharing your experience....See MoreTim
