Need help with Bathroom finishing touches please!
Comments (25)Oh my goodness! I feel like a little kid on Christmas! So many good ideas! I love my gardenweb friends! jakefield Thanks for asking. I never did a bathroom reveal (which I feel a little guilty about) because I never figured out how to post multiple photos. Would it be crazy to post more photos individually like I did here? I obsessed over the mirrors because I was concerned about a finish so close to the shiny chrome light fixtures. I really wanted to drop pendants, but I'm not very tall and my husband is over 6' so I went for function over form and these lights offer a very even, flattering light. After searching Kirklands, (thinking I would silver leaf them), RH, and ordering custom made from www.pictureframes.com, I decided to call a local glass fabricator. These are 28 x 44 and cost $105 each. They have picture frame hooks on the back. Mine were made with a bevelled border. The glass people said customers often buy pictures at TJ Maxx, remove the picture, and replace it with a mirror. It's pretty inexpensive to do. You might also like the "Hovan" Mirror from Horchow. I have that in my powder room and just love it. google it, lots of other sites have it as well, and it's always on sale someplace. Let me know what you think. The fixture over the tub had to meet height regulations, and I purchased this as a semi-flush mount. This model also converted to a hanging fixture, and I only used a few links since the ceiling was high enough to allow it to be hung that way. It was from Bellacor, about $330 with free shipping, and I think I may have had a 10% promo code. C5623-CH Crystorama Lighting Polished Chrome Hampton Crystal Three-Light Semi-Flush Chandelier Draped With Oyster Crystal Accented With A Silk Shade joaniepoanie the color is BM Glass Slipper, more blue than gray but very soft. The accent tiles are an opalescent translucent, and while they are not as green as they look in the photo, they can look a little green in some light. I think you're right about needing something soft... boopadaboo, I will take a look at Smith and Noble. I have no art, nor anything else picked out. Kind of at a standstill, but thanks to everyone, I'm starting to get eager again to finish this room! oakleyok I don't know anything about plantation shutters. When you say two tiered do you mean so the top will open like french doors, and the bottom stay closed for privacy? The idea of a wardrobe or chest is a good one too. There's no linen closet so I could sure use the extra space. itltrot and pricklypearcactus I really like the idea of the roman shade. I wish that Pottery Barn Shade came in my size! Maybe I can get one made at Smith and Noble? Has anyone ordered from there? patty_cakes the Austrian blind is so pretty too. I forget there are so many types of shades! beekeeperswife, thanks for the compliment. You have one of my favorite kitchens! I ended up doing this bath after I got too overwhelmed in the planning stages of doing my kitchen, but I'm back at that now. You have been a source of great inspiration! I never thought of going with a higher piece in the bath, but I think it could use the height. That Ballard piece could be just the thing... Annie you are so observant! So far I've just been hanging the towels on the shower door towel bar, but that 's a great idea! "Floating" is the perfect description, and the bars would create an anchor and a nice vignette. I could even still fit another piece like a small chest or the etagere there. I'm going on Etsy and Ebay to see if I can find some towel bars with crystal. I have never seen those Delia shades before. They are remarkable! I'm not sure if they will offer enough privacy for the bathroom (I emailed them and await a response) but I will sure remember these for my kitchen. I love the Tulip Arabesque. Stunning! You have also been a great inspiration. I have no idea how you managed it all without being overwhelmed! I appreciate your help here and all you have taught about color palettes... pricklypearcactus the stack bars are pure genius. That will also probably help absorb a lot of the echoing that's going on in that empty room. joaniepoanie, Janice, Bee, annz, I love the idea of a top down, bottom up. The duettes and silhouettes are so simple and easy peasy. I could do that online. Would you just leave them or put a valence up? aktillery would you suggest traditional bath mats or something else? I have some simple white cotton rectangles, but they just look so scattered...maybe it's just because the room looks so unfinished? Annie and pricklypearcactus, there is a thread here someplace that is hysterical about standing vs. teaching boys to sit. It's a little like the delicate Toto discussion. I've been around here long enough to know better than to go there...lol Anyone who has spent any time on the bath forum knows what I'm talking about! :p...See MoreNeed help with finishing touches in my "cottage" kitchen
Comments (10)I like all your pull choices, but I have to admit the first stands out to me. My island, which is not built in so technically a piece of furniture, has different knobs than my perimeter. If some pulls are more expensive, you could use those on the island, and simpler on the perimeter - if budget is a factor. Love the countertops. For cottage, think about subway tile (which I have) or you also might want to consider beadboard. Some say beadboard is harder to keep clean, but I honestly have never found my backsplash to get all that dirty - but I do not have a slide in range and it looks like you don't either - otherwise you would need to consider making sure there is something fire proof behind the range. I don't know what the floral mosaics are - could you post a pic? I love floral anything:) Just something to consider - being short, I am not overly fond of microwaves over the range. I moved my microwave down from a micro shelf that was equally high a few years ago. If you can conceive of ever doing the same, save enough leftover tile to fill in the space if you ever change over to a dedicated vent, or take the micro down, tile behind and then put it back up so the tile is there just in case. Beadboard would not be too hard to patch in if ever needed. For down the road - two decor items that I have used in my cottage kitchen decor are vintage china and floral / botanical art. My kitchen is not like yours - it is older cabinets, but there are pics in my "my pics" idea book....See MoreNeed help with finishing touches for guest bedroom
Comments (18)Ingrid, I am a retired children's librarian and I was drawn to the colorful pillows because they reminded me of the illustrations in the old picture books from the sixties. That was very perceptive of you to get a child's vibe from that. I totally agree-no more blue! I love the idea of botanical prints and have been looking online for something with yellow and pink or red. When we get the furniture arranged, I'll hang the art over the bed lower as you suggest. katinparadise, I like the idea to paint the blue frames black. And thanks for the folding advice for the throw. I'm actually wondering if a different throw would look better. Would a different color look better? Red, darkish yellow? I never realized that blues are so hard to match. mrykbee, I'm still eying that cute little rocker you showed me yesterday and I love the welcome basket idea. I had the same thought about taking the mirror off during the winter months when we need to use the thermostat. auntthelma, I agree that moving the thermostat would be the best solution. I just painted this room myself last month and got my husband to get rid of the old intercom grill. I don't know why we didn't think about moving the thermostat at the same time. The good thing is, we're both pretty handy and I have leftover paint, so hopefully we can get ourselves in gear and just move it. I do not understand why they put it where it is. The heater is on the opposite wall! But I do love the baseboard heaters with each room having its own control. Thank you all so much for your suggestions. Comments (7)So we don't want to do a rug just yet because I watch dogs for a living which is why we ripped out our carpets for Cortec flooring. We don't have much much room for a full sideboard so maybe one we can put in one of the back corners? I definitely like the idea of a new chandelier and curtains. Just not sure what type of Chandelier. We have a ceiling fan in our living room and a dome light in our foyer....See MoreMel Webber
