Kitchen Lighting for High Ceiling
Comments (1)I don't know how many of what size tubes you had in your basic fluorescent box, but it's likely you'll find it very difficult to get as much light as you're used to from any single, non-florescent, central fixture. I'd think a large hanging light could look quite nice, but I also think it would lead to a more substantial reworking of the lighting scheme than just replacing one fixture with another....See More8 1/2 foot ceilings??
Comments (12)We have 8'4" ceilings and we put in 42" upper cabinets with 4" of molding. I love the look of stacked cabinets but one of my main goals with our remodel was to have a kitchen with cabinetry I could adjust according to our needs. I like being able to adjust shelves according to my needs over the entire 42" height. I use the lower 2-3 shelves for everyday storage and the upper shelves for less used items and extras (i.e extra decanter for the coffee maker for when we have company.) I'm very happy with our 42" uppers. After living with our kitchen for 5+ years I'm tweaking the storage by adding extra shelves to 3 of our uppers....See MoreDesparate. Lighting kitchen with 12 foot ceiling. Recessed or drop?
Comments (5)I currently have a kitchen with 12' ceilings. I have all recessed LED lights. Because there are no hanging cabinets, you don't need under cabinet lights. The recessed lights are not blocked by the cabinets. I'm sure there is a preferred measurement from the wall. Mine look like they are about 18" from the wall and shine directly on the counter top. My recessed lights are all switched so that each of the four walls operates from a different switch. Most of the time, I only need one wall on, but occasionally I'll have a two walls on. All four walls and it looks like a retail store. They are all on dimmers. I do have a huge center island with an enormous pot rack over it. The pot rack is lit with halogen puck lights. I rarely turn the pot rack lights on. Actually, I'm thinking of getting rid of the pot rack. It's visual clutter and I don't need the storage. It's just my opinion but I find the wires running across the ceiling visually busy....See MoreIs it cheaper to do a 12 foot ceiling in living room or a cathedral?
Comments (6)Depends on the floor plan and how it ties into the rest of the house. If you have 9 ft side walls with a 14 ft peak ... I think that will be cheaper than the same size room with flat 12 ft ceilings, assuming you use proportionately sized door and windows for each space. The room with flat 12 ft ceilings would need taller windows and doors/sliders, so that part would cost more....See MoreAJCN
