lead Crystal
Comments (2)Most likely has lead in it....because without some lead content, it's just glass! But not likely 20% lead...or that would have been stated. You are fine for short term storage....like a few days.....and I sure wouldn't hesitate to use it for serving brand after dinner or sherry before. But it's not good to store liquor long term in lead glass. Linda c...See MoreLead crystals

Comments (8)I use denture cleaning tablets. Drop a couple in (break them if the mouth of the vase is too small for a whole one to fit), then fill with the warmest safe water for the piece you're cleaning. Generally, if the glass is thick, you don't want to use anything warmer than room temp. I'd already been using the denture cleaning tablets for many years, then I took a pate de verre class (making molded glass pieces using handmade molds and glass paste)--and the professor--a professional, nationally known glass artist--had us cleaning our 'masterpieces' with denture cleaner. So it's an accepted, safe technique, apparently, used by the pro's....See Moremaybe dumb question: o.k. to drink from lead crystal tumblers?
Comments (19)Fly....keep the glasses!!! Just don't store orange juice in them or even drink OJ out of them on an everyday basis. But for daily water glasses....they are better than fine!! Did you read the "recommendations'? Do not store wine in lead crystal and certainly not vinegar....for one thing it will ruin the decanter! But keep your lovely "cylinder of water glasses"...just dont' use them for daily juice! But as wine or water glasses they will be fine. And keep in mind the practicality of all the panic articles. Many Many of us grew up in houses with lead solder in the water pipes. I was taught to always let the water run for "Happy Birthday" if I wanted a drink in the middle of the night from the upstairs bathroom. We had leaded gasoline and houses painted with lead paint...AND many of us drank from lead crystal glasses....but certainly not on a daily basis because lead crystal is expensive and fragile. Be smart....don't sand your old lead paint....don't let your kids chew on window sills and don't let them eat paint chips.,,,,And don't store your OJ or lemonade in a lead crystal pitcher, and don't store your vinegar in a lead crystal cruet.... But I did for years, until I broke it. However I am sure it was no big deal because I only occasionally used a few drops of vinegar from that cruet. Keep your glasses! Linda C...See MoreUser
