Sumod- The medicine cabinets are simple wood frames with a cabinet-grade plywood back that just sit in the stud cavity. Because of the dimensions, the front of the frame projects about 1"+ beyond the finished wall. The medicine cabinet doors are also plywood with veneered edges and they are attached to the frame with standard cabinet hinges (Euro hinges). The mirrors are just 1/4" plate glass ordered to size from a glass shop and held in place with mirror mastic and a metal strip at the bottom that you don't really see. The guy who did the cabinets just made the medicine cabinets as part of the job. I don't know about the door brand...we live in a large metro area that has lots of door shops and the doors are just solid core maple doors with the center cut out and a maple panel held in with molding. They're not stained; they simply have a couple coats of clear spray lacquer.

Call a reputable local tile installer to come out and see what regrouting would cost. Dark grout would be fine. Or call the person who installed it, explain the problem, and see what they will do- free if there's an active warranty or for additional cost.

I don't think you're over-imagining that they don't look good, because they just don't! White is always a classic, maybe with small black accents? Plain rectangles or squares. When we built our vacation home many years ago, the builder's choices were also very limited. We chose plain white for all the bathrooms, and they still look good over 25 years later. They aren't cutting edge or dramatic or anything like that, just simple and nice. You can dress up the bathroom with accessories--towels, counter-top accessories, light fixtures, etc. I wouldn't worry about using the same tile in multiple bathrooms if your choices are limited and there's only one or two you like.

Hi Patricia, thanks so much for your input, much appreciated. No we can´t have a freestanding bath because of the plumbing. When you say stacked do you mean the 45cm x 90cm (i meant 45cm not 40cm) tile goes with the 90cm going up the wall, or more like bricks going across? Would love to hear from you. My tiler says I need to order soon as its 4-6 weeks to arrive!
