The only problem was a cold air return that got in the way of one of the plug spaces - so we had to bridge that one and if you are short, you can see the bridge - I might try to paint the wires to match the backsplash. The bridge is under these cabinets, between the glass cabinet and the end cabinet - I didn't take a picture of the bridge but it doesn't show when looking straight ahead, just when you are little and looking up - but then you would see the lights and plugs anyway...

@Bellsmom, thanks for going to the trouble of putting together a pic! The dark green does make the picture tile stand out more. @kaiju, Having the tiles in a row would be pretty much the same 36" as the cooktop and exhaust hood except the 4x8 is really one tile, not two 4x4s, so the lack of symmetry would make me crazy. @joyce, I love these tiles! There were several more Pine Landscapes in different sizes that were very tempting. When DH told his group of friends in Ann Arbor that I had gone to ''a tile store'', one of them said that it must be Motawi and boy was DH in trouble LOL. I'll definitely have different tile thicknesses. We have a good friend who does excellent tile work that I'm hoping to work the backsplash into his schedule. A good enough friend that he'll tell me if he doesn't want to do it rather than doing a unhappy job. How did you handle the different tile thicknesses for your fireplace surround? thanks for your comments!

Then there are strip or tube type of lighting you can use. If your mirror wasn't already installed, you could place 3 light fixtures right through the mirror, one on each end and one in the middle. To me your sketch above with only one fixture on each end looks like something in the middle is missing.

In case anybody is interested here's what I did to correct this problem: 1) Unplug the unit from the wall outlet 2) Turn the flashliight on with the switch to the bright room setting. Actually any of the light settings would work but this will be the quickest. 3) leave the light 'ON' and powered off the batteries as if there was a power outage for several hours to deplete the batteries. 4) once the batteries are depleted or nearly depleted plug the unit back in to charge. It should now function normally. The reason for the cycling is that if you don't have a power outage or cycle the batteries periodically they can get a 'memory' and the self test will show they are @ 'Low voltage'. If you exercise the batteries (discharge and charge) it will refresh them. Hope this helps. Mine is back to normal now. This device is actually classified as a 'rechargeable flashlight' so you NEED to cycle the batteries every now and again. Good luck!
