Strong Red or Hot Pink Blooming Clematis??
Comments (20)Brandy, here is a closer up view of Avant Garde. The color changes as the flower ages and then the sepals fall off leaving the pink frillies in the center. Others to consider would be C. texensis. The color of the flower will vary depending on whom you purchase it from but it is a beauty nonetheless. Another one that is more burgundy red is Gravetye Beauty. I almost hesistate to recommend her because she and her relatives, Etoile Rose and Princess Dianna are mildew magnets in my garden, but nonetheless will throw her in here. Another new one for me is Peveril Peach. Definitely not peachy in my eyes but perhaps the flowers will change as the plant matures. To me it looks a little like Duchess of Albany but the flower is much smaller. Here is a comparison shot of D of A and Peveril Peach....See MoreUPDATE: WoW Thanks! I wanted that !#7
Comments (150)My husband was in michigan this week and that was one of the flights he thought about taking on thursday night. He flies a lot and it just hit close to home. Clarence is not far from where we live. We are a little more out in the country. Big sigh of relief. When the news came on at 10pm they announced at the end of the broadcast that a plane had crashed by the airport, but they didn't know anything yet. By the time the 11pm news came on, it was not until after the weather that their news crews made it to the neighborhood and they announced it was a commercial plane. WIVB broadcast without commercial break until I went to bed at 2am. When my husband called to say he was alright i was so grateful. (wipes tears and sniffles) Fran, Could i have the blanket flower, please? BTW, DS#3 watered my keyboard once, its still a little iffy. We set it in from of the blower on the woodstove for a week. Just FYI those of you sowing in the keys LOL! Thank all of you for the prayers. Families here are esp. close knit and things like this are difficult for anyone. Praying for your FIL, too Nichol. Comments (31)Yellow and pinks are more or less complementary colours. It is a classic combination in colour designs. However, it also depends on the hues of colours. A hot lipstick pink may not look great beside a faded creamy yellow for example. In the end, it really depends on what kind of effect you are trying to achieve. I don't really care about clashing colours myself because in the natural world, all colours are mixed together not segregated. But for those folks who wants the "designer" looks, it is another story. The general rule with regard to colours in gardening is that soft colours especially blue and pink tones colours will appear further away as opposed to hot fiery colours. This "rule" may be important for someone who has a small garden. If you want your garden to appear larger than they are, you may want to plant all the soft blue tones flowers in the back and the red fiery to the front as the eyes will detect the fiery colours first. It will trick the eye that the garden is much larger than it is....See MoreOnly 10 (!) holes left. Dark colored roses for hot climes....
Comments (39)Kristine, your Marc Chagall must be pretty young? This variety was only released in 2020? Has yours, and/or Moonlight in Paris seen any frying temps yet? Sounds like the plant stays relatively small? Maybe these two could still be grouped together in my late-afternoon shade area, off barn. You don't think that they would both look "all the same white" from a few feet away? Thanks, Lynn, for the tip on possibly finding Purple Lodge. I have been to HelpMeFind which is also useful for alternative names on cultivars. Your comments on growing roses in Las Vegas are very helpful, the clime must pose several challenges for growing roses. Because of the long period of triple-digit summer temps here, I also use drip irrigation (but also supplement newbie plants with a hose), and mulch deeply with Cotton Burr Compost (I started using cotton burr amendments in coastal GA...Plants seem to love the stuff). Purple Lodge gets yet another score for emerging from your lousy winter. Will still strive to find this one. Is yours an own-root plant? Sheila, I still have not eliminated Falstaff from my pursuits. I grew up in Oregon, so I am familiar with your climate and know it can get quite warm & dry in the summer (actually very nice...lucky you). It would be fun to try both Falstaff and Purple Lodge. Too few holes, and too many (!) choices. Sigh. Go Gettum Cooper! Please let all know what varieties peaked your interest, and how well they grow for you. Have fun!...See MoreKristine LeGault 8a pnw
