New house facade help needed
Comments (15)Good advice all on getting an architect to re-draw the front elevation if I'm going to change it up. Love the term "builder's delight." And I've seen some mongrel looking houses and they give me the willies. m3d, I will be talking to the builder about all of this soon. I am just anxious to have something in my mind that is workable before I talk to him. I think it is better to have something that is well thought out rather than a lot of vague notions. Y'all are helping me see what works, what might not work, and why. Finally got a picture of facade #3. Do you think the portion that extends out could be clad in something other than brick? Maybe stacked stone? Maybe brick with a slurry on it (although I'm skittish of slurried brick - I've heard it eventually peels off). Maybe just brick painted? If I go with #3, do you think the interior of the little entryway ought to be clad in something contrasting? There is a house in my neighborhood that is painted brick except the interior of the entry and it has been left natural brick. I like the contrast on that house, but if I have brick on the body and stone on the jut-out, and something else on the interior of the jut-out, is that just "one sequin too much"?...See MoreFacade Help. Wooden tile for exterior facade?
Comments (7)hi all, sorry my bad. Failed to mentioned that the house is not in the US, that's correct. It is located in SouthEastAsia. Perhaps our building methods are totally different in this part of the world. No earthquake/hurricane or anysorts, so i suppose we are built all bricked up. In case anyone is curious here are some previous construction pics Anyways i have consulted my architect and they have given a green light in using the wooden tiles as part of the facade. Might be using the GDW12 or the GDW15. It does really looks like real timber print & texture Will share more pics when the house is in progression with the tiles & alucladdings. Hmm..is my thread on the wrong sub-forum, does my thread needs to be moved to the 'Building a Home' category. CheerS!...See MoreNeed design help with windows / exterior facade
Comments (4)I think the Window dimensions look proportionate to the house in there current size. I think the trellis and some different siding would finish it off nicely. But, if you want to change size now is the time, going wider is more expensive due to header issues, going taller is easier....See MoreHelp Wanted. How can I improve the Facade?
Comments (14)When the original poster doesn't give us any information, this feels like twenty questions, doesn't it? Perhaps this site is on the top of a steep incline, so there was no other place to put the garage, and the remainder of the house, and lower down the hill below the part of the house we can see. In that case, I sure as heck hope the poster has a super duper structural engineer evaluating the site and plans and every little change and maybe another one checking them, especially if you live in a seismically active area, and/or one prone to floooding, landslides, etc. Perhaps the front of the house faces the sun, hence the small windows. But if that is the case, does that mean the entryway will be hot as blazes? Perhaps the area has relatively little rain, hence the flat roof, as in Palm Springs houses. The house does look awfully glum. Is it the shape plus the color plus the tiny windows plus lack of landscaping? Taken together (sans the entryway) it has a rather institutional, almost correctional institution or bunker-like appearance. There are ways to do larger windows in area of high heat. https://www.wbdg.org/resources/sun-control-and-shading-devices In Australia the government pushes people to take measures to build in an energy efficient manner and use very little energy. Australia has climate zones very similar to ours. Please have a look at these articles and search for more for info that will apply to your climate area and to your home and ask your architect to have a look. https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/energy-and-environment/energy-efficient-home-design http://www.yourhome.gov.au/passive-design/shading...See MoreKasia Sparks
