Bathroom/closet layout help
Comments (6)In a small bathroom, it is not optimal to enter the closet from there. Interference with someone standing at the vanity, and not enough cubic space available to dissipate steam and smells from the bathroom (regardless of exhaust fan cfm). Option1 bedroom entrance is better. The bath door should mirror swing to be open against the wall. The closet door should not be 36" wide, as you have 80" available and hanging clothes require 24", so 80"-24"-24"=32" then your clothes (dressers whatever) would be sticking into the opening. You can actually make both doors 30" or 28" if you like the sameness from the bedroom view, or make the closet door 24" (that is actually acceptable width for a walk-in)....See MoreMaster room/Bathroom/ Closet layout
Comments (3)I'm sure others will chime in soon, but my immediate thought is that the closet is taking up prime corner space. Flipping the bathroom and closet would let you put in more windows in the bathroom. It would also allow you to add a door between the closet and laundry room, saving you steps when carrying clothes back and forth. If you do flip the closet and bathroom, you'll need to make sure your plumbing (at least your toilet) is not on the shared wall with your bed (unless you live alone). I would not want to be awakened in the middle of the night to the sounds of a flushing toilet behind my head. My second thought is that I (and a lot of others) have no use for a freestanding tub in the master. Make sure you would really use it before spending a large amount of money and sacrificing a lot of space for it. We removed ours when we remodeled our bathroom several years ago, and are not including one in our new build....See MoreHelp - first time remodeling - does this bathroom/closet layout work?
Comments (10)Free software allows you to design as much as the game Operation prepares you to perform surgery. This is not a criticism of you personally, just a commentary about how without the knowledge of design principles or construction experience, no type of software will prevent you from making costly mistakes. For example, moving a toilet as far as you are showing can be quite expensive. My advice is to meet with a few contractors and/or designers first to assess your space and advise you on any limitations and potential overall cost. The information you receive may better help you to set a realistic design direction....See MoreWhich bathroom/closet layout would you choose for a master suite?
Comments (29)Tricky question. I think it depends on your personal lifestyle and daily function. Ask yourself do you need/want alot of clothes storage? Is having your own sink a positive experience you want? Do you take baths frequently and is this important to you. For me, we don't have alot of clothes/shoes so closet is important, but not as important as having my own sink. Being married 46 years I learned long ago I don't like to share my toothpaste or sink space! I also don't take baths but love a generous shower. Be honest with yourself on what is important and functional in your daily life. Afterall your bathroom is a one of the only rooms you visit multiple times a day, it should meet your personal and individual needs if you have options. Good luck!...See MoreMatt Toenjes
