pruning after ice storm? My sad icey roses.
Comments (4)mmmm, would be inclined to leave them too - if nothing else, the bent and damaged foliage will provide further protection over winter (although it does look a bit unsightly). The autumn clear-up is always a tricky decision time - what to leave, what to cutback.....but in general, best to err on the side of caution and simply leave old leafage and branches as an organic windbreak and stabiliser against further windrock or freezing....See Morea few m ore today, before the storms hit
Comments (6)Oh,Thank you'all very much for the nice comments.I just love the daylilies and injoy so much of trying to get photos of them, and lately to get my mind off the arm and wrist.I just don't know what to think of my wrist.Has n ot stopped hurting yet.I wonder how long it takes?Put a support band on it today for some support and maybe safety for it.I sure don't want to break it again and have to go through all this again.I did all this picture taking today with 1 hr sleep last night.Just could not go to sleep, till after 7am this morning, then only for a hour,so I am very tired, BUT NOT SLEEPY YET. I was told to be careful with the wrist, but to use it as much as possible,so it don't freeze up and become useless. OH WELL, got to get b etter and back to normal some day, RIGHT??? Comments (22)Good news! The ground is bare of snow here on the south coast of MA (of course we still have some gnarly piles of dirty snow)....but the lawn is green! And....I was pleasantly surprised today to see some golfers playing at the New Bedford Country Club! So golf has arrived in southern-most New England and will spread north over the next 4-6 weeks. Even though Nemo's snow is gone, the tree damage is extensive. Although there are lots of broken limbs here and there, what is most amazing is the shear number of uprooted trees. I **had** a very large cherry laurel....about 8 feet tall...full lush and of course evergreen. Nemo pulled the entire thing right out of the ground and then flattened it under 15 inches of heavy cement. I can't even budge it even though the snow is gone and the ground is soft and unfrozen. I guess I will cut it way back to primary branches, dig it up, and replant it. My large southern magnolia lost 2 branches, but overall did much better than I originally thought it did the day after Nemo. It is a bit misshapen now and I am wondering if it is time for a very aggressive pruning next month....to get it all tight and bushy again. I think the main message is....prune prune prune. The more you do it...correctly...the better the odds the tree or shrub will survive these historic events....See MoreWENT out after the storm today and just took shots of the new one

Kay. wild one seems to be a nice one every day. has a lot of substance to it.The daughter and I got back from wal mart and it really did pour hard, and wild one looked like it didn't get any of it, but, know it did....See More- 4 years ago
