backsplash indecision reigns supreme - need advice
Comments (22)Thanks for the compliments! We purchased both tiles from www.glasstilestore.com. The glass tile is the 1x1 Harvest Gold mosaic (although the picture online looks greenish to me) and the 2x4 Jerusalem gold is found under their Marble Mosaics category. The price was much less than what we would have paid at the tile stores around here for the same thing. They will send out samples for $5. and they shipped pretty quick. I know it is an agonizing decision Anna_2006! I actually posted to the decorating forum to get feedback on our original idea which was a black subway tile...I was afraid it was going to be too dark or dramatic and after taking into consideration all the comments, and doing a mock-up, we came to the same conclusion. One of the posters at that time (sorry, don't remember who!) actually suggested Jerusalem Gold because they had found, after much searching, it was one of the few tiles that really worked for their busy granite. For whatever reason, I did not follow up on that suggestion but I should have! After several more weeks of agonizing and money spent for sample after sample, I did see it online and ordered the sample. When it came, we knew right away it was the right one. I like it because it doesn't compete with the granite and yet, because it is polished, it has a little glow and bling of its own. Zobeet's pictures seem to confirm as well that Jerusalem Gold does work well for some of those busy granites with the golden tones so you may want to check it out. Be warned though...it wasn't easy then choosing a PAINT color!!! and I am still not quite satisfied with the paint I have now...sigh...sometimes it doesn't end... Comments (29)The later pictures look more accurate during daylight, but at night the floor appears to have more red tones and the ctop appears a bit more gray. The porcelain tile has a very dull finish so it's absorbing the light while the shiny granite is reflecting it We are still going back and forth on back splash options. I'm thinking the back splash should be simple since the ctop is so speckled and busy. I would like a combination of stone tile and glass tile, but nothing that commits me to any certain color scheme. Knowing us it will be Christmas before we decide a wall color. I think we will stay away from colors that are too green because it will make the cabinets look too red. We have a neutral taupe, light blue/green, yellow, and gray theme going throughout the rest of the house. Thanks again for all the compliments and suggestions!...See MoreMichelew90 backsplash quest 2
Comments (150)I like the way this backsplash changes with light reflection and texture but appears to be all the same color. What do you think of this? I don't know what it is. Mayflowers which photo are you referring to? One of them was taken on the island, one on beverage area, and another on range wall. I guess I'll be starting a new thread soon. I'll call it michelew90's backsplash quest3. Comments (9)We have KM sunset cabinets in our LL walkout. They're back where the natural light doesn't reach them. I kept going back and forth between wanting a light color, and wanting a rich darker color. We chose the light counter, and it really makes a difference. Since we had already chosen the cork floor (same floor as the upstairs kitchen, so that determined the color), we matched the countertop to that. In our upstairs kitchen, we have KM cabs that are a tad darker than the sunset. This kitchen receives natural light from a triple window that has a 10' porch roof cutting off light from the SE, a triple dining room window facing NW 15' away from where I stand at the sink at the peninsula, and two 10" SunTunnels. We put a medium light green granite, Costa Smeralda which we love, here. The granite was a last minute choice because we got a VERY good price on it since the slabs were cracked and we could work around the cracks. We love it, but I think there are better color choices for the medium cherry cabinets. The over all room still seems sort of dark to me at times. We put a creamy tan marble on the 4'x4' center island (which is cream). It would have looked much better to have reversed the countertops (cream on cherry, green on cream) but it was a major cost issue. So I'd go with the cream for the situation you've described.
