Pineapple suckers growing from the fruit

Bought a pineapple at the store that seems to have suckers on it already. I've seen them growing from the base of the pineapple plant, but never while on the pineapple fruit. Haven't found anything about this online.
There are about 7 suckers, each 2-3 inches. Are they too small to pull off and plant yet? Should I plant the whole top and wait for them to get bigger?

Myrobolan seedling is a common rootstock. It produces plums the size of bing cherries. They don't taste bad at all and you can make jam or plum wine from them. Maybe you have that. There are other rootstocks that could also be what you have but myrobolan is the most common plum rootstock. Scott

personally, i would cut it off and make a new plant. im no expert, but i think you only get 1 fruit per plant so, the more plants, the more fruit you get. i dont see any reason why it would harm the mother plant as long as you just cut the roots to separate them. --- "Removing suckers, slips, and hapas during plant growth and fruit development will hasten the development of the fruit and increase fruit size. Wonder if they will taste good. i don't think a tomato that doesn't taste good exists ;) if the seeds came from a fruit that came from a hybrid plant this is possible as mentioned. also, if you think this is weird this is nothing.. some plants can produce different types of tomatoes on a single plant including different sizes from grape size all the way to huge big beef size tomatoes. imagine having a plant where you can pick cherry tomato, roma/plum and big beefs from a single plant lol...

citrus suckers, from the original seed, do they produce fruits, too?

ground level suckers from seed grown trees will take about 10 years to produce fruit. Keep all the fruit producing trunks and prune off the low level suckers. Pictures would help.

WE used to do this as kids - you can slice off the top and put it in a dish of water and it will root. But unless you live in a tropical climate, it won't be hardy. And they aren't very pretty...

Not an expert, but I'd cut off the top then cut off the babies leaving a hunk of the top on each, then stick them in water or soil.

There are some pineapple threads on the bromeliad forum.

I get fruit on my pineapple plants, but I have to protect them from pests, such as squirrels (I think) when they are starting to ripen.

You can cut the top off now and try to root it. I would probably grow it as a cluster, and that might look prettier.

It is intersting to watch the flower develop. It becomes red in one of the early stages.

You don't put any of the fruit part in to start a new plant. You remove all the fruit, pull off the bottom leaves from around the stem, and stick that part in the soil. since you already harvested the pineapple, I don't think it would hurt to separate the "pups" as you would with a succulent plant.
