Ack. Lights centered over table would be off-center in room...
Comments (5)We have the same problem in our dining room. And the real 'ACK' part is that we gutted our whole kitchen/dining area and removed the old ceiling, so we could have addressed it properly the first time. Once the new dining room table was in, it was obvious we would be moving it off centre (pathway to deck is behind table), and we're kicking ourselves. DH is planning to buy a plaster medallion to put up on the ceiling, so that the edge of it will cover the old hole. Luckily, he is an electrical engineer, so he can do the rewiring. I COULD patch the hole, but what a LITERAL pain in the neck. So not only will the fixture be off-centre, but medallion will be too. I am pretty sure it will cost you more than $35 extra on top of the first $35 to rewire in a new location- assuming there is enough wire up there to allow the move. Ours is accessible from the attic....See MoreOff center dining room table & medallion issue
Comments (6)We have asymmetery in our dining room bc our fireplace is not centered. We had the choice of centering the chandelier in the room or putting it directly in front of the fireplace, making the chandelier not centered in the room. We ended up placing the chandelier in front of the fireplace, but the table is centered in the room. Nobody notices, and I don't either unless I happen to be working on a project in the room. ;) In your case, I'd center the chandelier and medallion in the ceiling relative to the fixed elements in the room. It will be much more noticeable to not have the chandelier centered in your ceiling that your table not centered under the chandelier since there is a separation of visual space between the chandelier and your table. IMHO. Good luck!...See MoreHow to arrange a large 'square' family/dining room off kitchen.
Comments (3)During the planning stage we went back and forth several times with the direction of the vault. The porch outside the big glass doors is a gable and we played with the idea of having the vault run from left to right and through to the porch. We kept changing the proportions of the room to accommodate dining, seating areas etc. At the end we 'forgot' to change the dimensions back to 22 x 26. You look at the plans so much that you don't 'see them'. The room looks massive yet it is not long enough for seating and dining - and its too wide. I didn't notice it until the foundation was already poured. Originally we had planned that the room to the left of the main entrance would serve as a dining room. I was advised to put the dining table in the main room and so we made the original dining space smaller by adding space to the office. I'm old school and always liked a dining room and breakfast space in the kitchen. Now I'm building a very expensive house without either. Lesson: decide on the things that are important to you and stick to them. Ignore the advice of people who might live a different lifestyle than you....See MoreCeiling Fixture for 8' ceiling, off centre from dining table
Comments (5)good point. Not a big fan of edison bulbs , and not very familiar with the light they cast. The brass one shows up often on pinterest, but I can't find anything like it in retail. yet ;) The attached photos show a fixture that has adjustable arms for different directions. If we could have an electrician mount it without the extending poles from the ceiling, we'd have the clearance we need. It would be more like semi flush height The bulb covers (?) are smoky glass and can hold 60 Type A - so, dimmable, regular bulbs, led bulbs..whatever works, I'm guessing. Shame that you can't tell the light you'll get without have it hard wired first. Thanks for your reply...See MoreBrittany Alexann
