Comments (10)That reminds me of a time when we used to have "rainy days". Rainy days start out by waking up late because the cloudy skies outside your bedroom window and cooler temps inside do not entice one to wake up or venture beyond the covers. There is a soft and soothing sound of rain drops landing on the roof or window. By lunch time, under the cloudy skies and steady rain everything looks so lush and beautiful that despite the rain you want to go outside anyway to take it all in. The temperature outside is just right. Not too hot, not too cold. Everyone's outdoor activiites for the day have been canceled so there is a large crowd at the movie theatres. Haven't had a rainy day in quite some time....See MoreRain! Rain! Rain!
Comments (5)We had lots of rain/thunder/ tornadoes during our county fair last week, but you know what, everyone was soooo happy to finally have rain that we didn't mind!! And the tornadoes didn't touch down where we were at, (I hope no one else was injured by them.) Even the animals seemed to be doing the happy dance for rain. We had a hard time getting fair-goers to come in from the storm, they were glad to be in the rain. I'm glad to hear the rain has finally gotten to you folks further south. I was going around to other county fairs this week, and saw some areas that still need some rain. Their corn was all curled up still....See MoreWinter respite
Comments (31)Here's that picture of the Douglas Fir by the phone booth. It's around 70 or 80 ft tall, 4 ft. diameter at DBH. (Diameter at Breast Height) Circumference is 12 ft. 11 inches. Not particularly large by PacNW standards, even I have several that are taller. The tree to the right is a Western Hemlock, fairly large, but again, I have one that is larger and a lot better looking. Both of these trees have had their branches stripped over the years by wet snow and ice. The surrounding trees were cut down around them before I moved here, (1979) leaving the long thin, widely spaced, light starved branches to grow thicker and hold more ice and snow over the years and down they came. Looking east and from 10 or 12 ft higher than the base of the tree....See MoreNancy 6b
