Please help me choose a range hood. I need to order cabinets!
Comments (1)We bought the Broan Elite 2 years ago and are happy with it. Performance is great, it's easy to clean. On high speeds it is very loud, but we don't run it that way very often. I usually use it on the lowest speed, and I find the level of noise manageable. For the price, it was a good choice for us....See MoreHelp me choose a rangetop and hood!
Comments (2)Sorry, I didn't put this in before black Friday. I love my kitchenaid top of the line cooktop. I also like my Bertazoni cooktop on my freestanding range (in another house). Both have simmer burners that aren't quite low enough for me but both give off plenty of heat for wok type cooking. The Bertazoni oven is questionable but the stainless steel is higher quality and cleans up better....See MoreHelp Choosing Range Hood Style-Again!
Comments (10)First of all--please yourself! I think I hear an undercurrent of "I like this but I don't think it'll work so I like that". Your big issue is that you're going for a stark palette but still want lovely rather than, um, stark. If you do a stainless hood with stainless counters and stainless range and white tiles to the ceiling it might get to be a bit off balance. The first of your inspiration photos has dark down, light up, and a line of medium (the counters and cooktop) in the middle. The white hood on white wall works. The square shape in the third picture is nice. See Gizmonike's hoods. But it does look a little stuck on wall--this is counteracted wtih the molding at the bottom, the busy backsplash, and the colorful clutter. On the other hand, with your 8' ceilings it will have different proportions. The math: 36" high counters + 30" clearance = 66" which means you have approximately 30" left for the height of the hood, or two and a half feet. A boxy hood of 48" x 30" (4' x 2.5'), or more likely 54" x 30" (4.5' x 2.5'), is going to have a different visual impact than the one in the picture. It's going to be elongated and rectangular, rather than tall and square. This will actually look less stark. If the top picture is your true inspiration (and it's gorgeous), my own choice is that kind of hood. Simple, clean, pyramidal, white. You have a shorter wall but also a smaller range so it should scale down well and still give you a similar visual impact. The big difference is that the converging lines draw the eye up on the pyramidal one, while the angular lines draw the eyes sideways on the rectangular one....See MoreHelp me choose a gas range and hood for my NYC kitchen remodel
Comments (4)I'd suggest posting in appliances for more input. There are a few experts who hang out there and not here. And I'd suggest taking a serious look at an induction range. I made the switch from gas a couple of years ago after researching on the appliances forum and would not willingly go back. Induction has all the power, faster adjustments and is easier to clean. And importantly in your situation the range itself isn't putting anything into the air to be vented. Most induction ranges have different electrical requirements from a standard electric radiant range so you would need to check whether you can swing that in your building....See MoreMomofthree Ma
