still pulling my hair over backsplash... Help please!
Comments (18)Thank you for all your comments. :) Boxer, we had the backsplash included in the contract with our contractor so we sort of have to do it together... If we were more experienced with remodeling, we would not have done it the way we set it up but... oh, well... Leslie and jdcl, I like your suggestions. I have been actually looking at either taupe tiles and gray tiles. There ARE so may shades of these tiles that actually have been rather confusing for me but your mentioning these olors sort of assures me! Cinlyklein... now... what is a kitchen shrine? Maybe something that I should do a search for? pdxkit, We paid $3315 for what came out to be 67 sqft of the area. The island is about 52" x 36" (39" x 24" cabinet and 12" overhang on two sides). I have replied to your email about the price detail on our granite, too. Hope that helps!...See MoreFinal strech: Backsplash help, please (pics)
Comments (6)Wow. Can I just say wow one more time at your granite? It's crazy. Can you please share it's name and source? It reminds me of a painting, really... great. Anyway, for the backsplash I think you want to not distract from your granite. White subway might be just fine because it is so mono-chromatic and not terribly eye-catching. I think that I would avoid the tile that matches the wall color, just because it be odd to get a 'near-miss' in terms of color and texture. The white glass in matte or shiny though might be an alternative to the subway. Either way I would suggest getting samples and putting them up on your walls, I know it's changed a lot of peoples minds about their backsplash. And one more time about the granite: wow....See MoreGranite and back splash help, PLEASE.
Comments (4)We used Kashmir Gold with our dark-ish cabinets and medium floors (which are more medium than they look here: A better look at the surface, but before the kitchen had a new floor - and a few other things :) Backsplash: this is really personal. We used a travertine, but that is definately an "out" choice around here. Various kinds of subways are ever popular choices, also squares set on point, and some still like various sorts of glass, or even the same granite as your counter or a piece of stainless steel. Some go with just paint, which also works. There are many threads on that subject, but this one is fairly recent and makes many good points to consider. Mostly I'd recommend deciding on a counter first, and then worry about the backsplash. Comments (18)Thank you for all of the comments. I totally get what you are saying regarding the light. It's not ideal, but the contractor is pushing for tile selections to be completed prior to even having drywall up! At this point, I'm just hoping to get a better idea as to whether we can go white for the backsplash at all, or if we need to go with a "neutral off white". Or should we be looking for a neutral tile that matches the countertop in color and shade? The tile store person said that if we go with a grout similar toned to the counter, it would help pull in a white tile. Out of all the grouts they had, the warm gray with the closest in tone to the counter top, but it still isn't perfect. It's a bit purple toned. We knew going into this that the counter would be difficult to get a backsplash for, but we love the stone. It is extremely expensive, thus cost prohibitive to use as a backsplash. To me, the taupe 2x8 (which is actually 2x10 - whoops!) looks the best of the options, as it isn't stark white but it appears white in person. I feel like the warm gray would give a considerably darker feel to the kitchen, whereas I want it to feel light and bright. Is it best to try to "match" the countertop? Or is it better to go with a complimentary shade with similar undertones?...See MoreRachel Halas
