Is this bedroom set too massive for my bedroom? (pics!)
Comments (51)Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?...See MoreAllergic Freak Out - Bedroom Floor time
Comments (21)Well, we've decided to do wood, BUT we will have to wait a while. We have a hallway, dressing area, and a study that all butts to an existing oak floor. We'll probably pick a similar floor, but we will shop around and think about it for a bit. I'm not about to lay my own wood floor over 600 or 700 sq. ft., so we'll have to save for installation too. We want to be able to pull out all the stops for this floor. It might even have to wait until I go back to work. : ( I'd love to have a herringbone pattern. : ) In the meantime, we'll keep things very clean and in the summer, we'll rip out the rug and have it hauled away. Our interim floor (and this is really fun) will be epoxy. There is a no VOC formula that looks very similar to terrazzo when it cures. That should be fun to play with. It's nuts, I know, but at least it will seal up the plywood so I can keep it clean for the next year or so. I'll just plop down a few area rugs and have them hauled out for cleaning a couple times a year. Wanna help pick colors?? : D Moonshadow, I can't wait to get this yucky garbage out of here. I'm absolutely sure I'll feel like a million bucks living without all this grotesque dust catcher outta here....See MoreIs it worth giving up a bedroom?
Comments (7)I'll be the voice of dissent here. How do you know this is your "forever" home? Is your job that secure? Are you sure? If the economics are secure, what if you become ill and mobility challenged? Will this home have the wide doorways and handicap accessible baths that you might need? Forever is a long time to be certain that your needs and wants---or the neighborhood--won't change. I had a friend who modified her home from a 3 bedroom, 2 bath to a 2 bedroom 2 bath, and then finished out the basement as 2 additional bedrooms. She thought that would give her greater utility and more value added. Unfortunately, the master bedroom/bath alterations made for a really funky layout that was a huge turnoff to most people. It also left the other small bedroom on the original level looking "out of place" when compared with the new size of the master. The basement bedrooms had moisture problems which led to mold problems, and the non permitted reno had to be ripped out completely when resale came around, leaving her with an oddly configured home that was extremely difficult to sell. She too thought it would be her forever home and never planned on moving. Until technological advances made her job obsolete and her husband was injured on the job and couldn't work. She changed careers, but it wasn't enough to save her "forever" home. And she had to bring money to the table to even be able to walk away from it. So, talk to a real estate agent FIRST about your proposed changes and the effect on your home value. Your home is the largest asset you'll own, and negatively impacting that asset should be avoided at all costs. If you want to increase the utility and value, maybe do a small addition rather than a devaluing restructuring....See MoreJust finished daughter's bedroom for her b-day!

She even invited over a newly ex-boyfriend to see it. She said she wanted to show it off. She in fact said, "I'm gonna live here forever" LOL! She's kidding though, once she's done with nursing school in a couple yrs she will be buying her own place. Then I'll get to help her decorate that!Fun Fun!...See Morehollybar
