Comments (28)Larry - you can check on Orchid Forum here, AOS.org site or just search for light requirements for orchids. But - serious growers of orchids - have greenhouses - with heat, cooler, netting on the top, automatic watering, misting etc. Or basement with metal halide lights. There are some orchids that can be grown under fluorescent lights humidity provided. They are low (duh) light requirement. Jewel orchids, phalenopsis and paphiopedilum work with violets in my personal limited experience. 2 shoplights though. It is my second year and my noname paph is reblooming now. I tried Ludisia - which supposedly the easiest - didn't work. Macodes - which is picky - grows well under one shoplight together with AVs. Good luck Irina...See Moremore rain! picture of the new swamp
Comments (5)Wow Lori, what a puddle. I came to see how everyone was faring with all this rain. I too have lost so many plants. I had lost interest in the garden for a couple of years (life getting in the way) and became rejuvenated after spotting a hummingbird visiting a few weeks back. Since then I have put in trays of vinca, most of which have died and some plants I purchased through mail-order. Five out of eight have perished. Ouch! At this moment I am sitting in front of my window as a torrential downpour is going on outside. This is the second storm today. On the bright side, I cut up a milkweed stem, stuck them all in the ground about a week ago and most of them are showing signs of leaf growth! I only recently learned on this board you can do that. Hopefully those who need the rain so badly will get some soon....See MoreFrom the Rain Forest Exhibit

Comments (13)We have our RFG now for a month. It's smooth and shiny, but there are duller lines along some of the veins. No stains, scratches etc. Would you stand on any counter? I'm not going to stand on this one for sure. And I don't think I would stand on granite either. RFG is so gorgeous. We keep looking at it and finding new colors and veins. Today my sister found a tiger next to a stream. I have one spot that is a tornado. There are lots of tree tops and just odd color spots. As you saw in the photos, my kitchen is very plain. Slab doors and drawers, wood floor etc. I think RFG would clash with a fussy kitchen. Regarding price, we paid about $4000 for 62 sf, including fabrication and installation. We didn't pay extra for a fancy edge. Saturday is backsplash day. The tile is 3x6 glass subway in a very light green. I'll post photos when it's done. I hope you will keep RFG as a possibility. We are so happy with it and everyone who sees the kitchen is blown away....See Morembug_gw
