New at David Austin Rose Care
Comments (7)Buford is right, and your roses look great! You sound like you've planted them well and amended the whole bed - good for you! To keep that nice texture as well as moisture you may want to mulch the soil around the rose. You can use anything organic - leaves, chipped bark, pine needles - just don't let it creep up around the base of the rose if possible. Austin roses tend to like a lot of moisture and you can get faster petal drop even than usual if they're water stressed. Have fun! Cynthia...See MoreLooking forward to new David Austin's roses
Comments (24)What I like about Olivia Rose is : --she is very disease-resistant. Many of Austin's earlier pinks were not. --her blooms have a lovely shape and appealing pastel color and good fragrance--very different than many of the earlier short pinks which may have 1 or 2 of those traits, but often do not have all 3. --she is a smaller bush than many Austins--which is what I need since I am nearly out of space. Therefore, I think Olivia Rose fits in well with my needs and expectations. But until I get one and actually grow it in my garden, I'm not going to know for sure, am I! LOL. David Austin--get me my rose! Kate...See MoreOne of my new David Austin roses has RMV. What should I do?
Comments (85)"Propagation: Rosa Damascena is propagated through one year old stem cuttings. It can also be propagated through the divisions of old plant, lateral sprouts with roots and seeds. Stem cuttings are collected at the time of pruning in mid October to end of December; 20 cm long, 0.75-1.50 cm thick cuttings are planted in nursery; 2/3 of the stem length is inserted into soil. IB A @ 200-250 ppm is given to induce rooting. These cuttings are ready after one year for transplanting into main field." http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.2478/V10133-010-0032-4 ---------------------------------------------- " The cultivars and ecotype of Rosa damascena Mill. have been grown by using cutting or two old-suckers for many years" "Stem cuttings are collected at the time of pruning in mid October to end of December; 20 cm long, 0.75-1.50 cm thick cuttings are planted in nursery; 2/3 of the stem length is inserted into soil. Comments (75)In the past, I've paid way more than that for plants but not roses lol.. I wouldn't pay it nowdays. With Covid and the shut downs etc came a huge movement to become more self sustainable. The housing market has gone berzerk and more people are moving out of crowded city apartments and into homes. Many are starting their first gardens. There is also a HUGE homesteading movement in this coutry. Back to basics and farming on a small scale. So many people while exploring vegetable gardening, have also discovered a new love for flowers and America's best known and probably favorite flowers are roses! This is why seed companies and other plant companies can't keep up with the demand. We've been doing some building projects around the farm and have noticed the prices of lumber have gone crazy. Every few weeks 2x4x8's and plywood increase. I used to find cheaper plywood here (pre covid) for about $13..that same plywood today is $28. Houses are being built like crazy in our area and across the US causing wood prices to soar....See Moreratdogheads z5b NH
