Comments (5)Hi rob, MG formulas vary, the general plant NPK is 24-18-16 + micros. This means that if you take; 0.1 gram of MG = 68 mg (0.068 gr) of NPK + 0.2705mg micronutrients Dilute that in 1 litre of water = a ppm of 68 + micros (Sorry not doing your math converting grams to tablespoon weight.) Add Epsom salts & for every 0.1 gram = 23 mg of Mg. (10 mg) +S (13 mg). Add other nutrients ( like Ca ) & the TDS keeps adding up. You say that have a reservoir; if your watering is like a non-recycling hydroponic set up ("drain to waste"), then +/-25 % flow through is quite likely occurring. You can measure the waste water & thus approximate the ppm that did not come through if you are fertigating. Simple developing world drain to waste ag projects for toms & eggplant try to weakly fertigate 3 times/d when seedlings, then scaling up to 15 times a day when in production. ( We modeled for project funding budget that each determinate tomato/eggplant would receive in the course of it's life a total of 33 gr N+ 14 gr P + 27 gr K + 27 gr Ca + 10 gr Mg + 13 gr S + micros. The fertigation formula's composition ideally is tweaked depending on stage of growth, but in practice the fertilizer availability has to be worked with.) You probably read Tapla's advice elsewhere that when you water frequently do so with weak fertilizer concentration & assure decent % flows out. Bear in mind that each time the plant gets fertigated the uptake of water may vary, as might the % of nutrient components; which is why hydroponics ideally uses measuring meters to check used water's residues....See MoreA Beautiful Rainy Morning
Comments (9)Yes, the Galveston port is open, but still showing lots of the results of Ike. Trash is everywhere, and lots of the buildings that are still standing have pieces of metal ripped off. Many homes still have tarps tied down on their roofs to cover the damage. We didn't see all of Galveston because we just went straight to the port, but we still saw a lot of damage. In Mexico, we were told that the cruise business is also much less than normal because of the economy. It was a great trip although I did get sea sick because we had lots of waves the first night out. Coming back the water was calm and the temps were pleasant. I totally enjoyed seeing all of the tropical plants. The prolonged cold weather here finally took out my salad greens. Of course it wasn't covered or anything but I doubt that it would have mattered much anyway. We had greens past mid-December, so now I know what to expect and plan for in the future. Our son and DIL just left today to go to her parents and then he will be leaving next week for Nigeria. She is going to stay with her parents for awhile. I have lots of new flower seeds to try because of the swaps and offers I have been involved in. I am going to try winter sowing several of them. Sure hope I can make it work. Now I feel like I need to rest from my vacation. LOL Maybe I'll take a nap....See MorePersil 2 in 1, Intense Fresh and Regular Persil liquids (gels)
Comments (11)I tried the Pro-Clean Power Pearls when they first came to Wal-Mart. Not impressed. Fast forward a few months and I need to buy new detergent. I gave up on powder as I just could not get near as good of results as liquid. So, I decided to give one of the Persil liquids another chance. I went with the Intense Fresh. I've used it in about 5 loads now so far and I have been impressed. I love the scent and it seems to play well with any fabric softener I've used with it or even when I only used a bit of vinegar in FS dispenser. DH needed new laundry detergent this weekend. (Yes, we each do our own laundry and pick out our own products.) I tried to get him to consider the Persil 2-in-1, but he's stuck on the Tide Plus Ultra Stain Release....See MoreRainy Wednesday
Comments (6)Julia, we are happy to have rain and it seemed like it was a good one too. The corn in the field next to us was beginning to curl. We have so many plants it's just hard to keep them all watered sufficiently when it is this hot....See Moreorganic_kitten
