So many blooms, so little time...daylilies & more
Comments (17)THANK YOU to all my forum friends for your nice comments. Marg...yes that is a japanese maple, one of the laceleafs. I have two in that bed. I actually made the bed first, then planted the maples. I have other japanese maples around the property (another of my plant addictions, of which I have many). I actually make raised beds because the ground is so full of rocks and roots and it's impossible to plant. My whole property was forest when I moved here. Rita... I have unearthed probably thousands of rocks over the past few years. New Hampshire is named the 'Granite State' for a reason....LOL. I am running out of rocks so now I am getting them from my father's property miles away but I don't have a truck so I gather a few everytime I visit my dad. My husband isn't too crazy about the car always being dirty from the dug-up rocks...Haha. Edward & Ellie...Sorry, I don't know the name of any of my peonies. I have never bought any since over the years people have shared them with me, the same with the iris and many of my perennials. I have a lot of pass-along plants started from divisions. Folks don't usually give me a name so maybe they don't know either? I did see one at Lowe's the other day that looked just like my white one, but I didn't check to see the name. Sorry I'm no help. Missylin...I am pretty sure that peonies are colder-zone plants but I don't know how warm a climate they can tolerate. It seems everyone around here grows peonies and they do very well so they must like the cold. The same is true for tulips, lilacs, rhododendrons, spruce trees, birch trees, etc. which flourish here. (There has to be some positives to living where its really cold, right?). We do have glorious summers but it is so short-lived. Julia...yes we are 'rock-miners'...teehee. That is a very good word for it! I am told that I have not only a plant addiction, but a rock addiction. I can't stop making rock beds and taking over the lawn and entire property with rock garden beds. I figure, the rocks are there and they are free. And digging them up keeps me in shape! THANK YOU, Nancy, Kay, Nat, Brittie and Jean! Christine, you know exactly what I'm talking about having lived in Connecticut! You simply cannot put a spade in the ground without hitting ROCKS so raised beds are the only way to go. Celeste...See Morewow, two more blooms to share
Comments (23)Jean, I'll be 67 in August, never imagined you were older. I don't know if my back problems are severe, but they are definitely slowing me down, am supposed to go to therapy. I struggled to plant some things in pretty big pots which was all I could manage plus 6 bare root roses, last year 2 cherry trees twice because the first ones died in the freeze. I used to work in computers, but these home computers are a whole 'nuther animal, and I try not to mess with anything I don't absolutely have to or want some new software really badly because too much can go wrong fast no matter what they say. I had a setback with my back just hauling my printer (big) home from the shop and hooking it up again where things are really tight under my table. I don't know about calibrating monitors either because I don't want to. Since I got on the net in 97, I'm on my second one, set them all up myself, wasn't into the hardware end of things, and I've learned to do graphics and can do more than someone who majored in it, but I got burned out on it. Then I took up photography seriously, always had a camera, my father got me a film one with the mysterious numbers. I also set them on auto until I discovered a photography forum. They taught me everything I know to the point I've won money on some of my photos but am too old to go professional (plus couldn't take the stress of it), but there is still much to learn and practice. Now with my revived interest in gardening, I've not been able to get out and take many photos, don't mind really. So don't feel bad. I didn't know squat most of my life about cameras. The best of it is I've been able to help and encourage my gdaughter with hers, and she has a long life ahead of her and is thinking of going professional. For college graduation I bought her a better camera than I have, newer model, and it was bandied about why didn't I take the new one and give her mine. I'm happy with mine, that's why. The only thing better about hers is that it has a huge screen. But it takes 10 mp photos, and I don't want them that big, don't have enough memory right now. So it goes. I don't know about patents on lilies, but that one is so striking you could try to propagate enough to sell them. I read a post on here last year where a girl did that and sold them out of the back of her pickup, people snapped them up like crazy, and she made $800, don't know how many plants. Then she lost the mother plant. I hope she was able to find a suitable replacement. Some plants are so unique you can't really replace them. So many have the same name and don't look the same at all, same with roses. I'd better quit bugging you with my chatter. I only pick a few threads here and there that interest me, can't keep up with too many and don't alway chatter so much....See MoreUPDATE: More... 'Bunny Swap' Chatter! #2

Comments (18)Mantis - I originally got three daylilies from hybridizer Mix before his death. I bought Glitter Gal, a late that died in a pot two winters ago, and Kisses from Heaven, an edge no eye cultivar that survives in a pot. Sweet Prairie Wind was the bonus. I just got it in the ground after three years in a pot. It was not happy in the pot and would not multiply there. I'm hoping it will take off now that it's in a place with good soil and plenty of sunshine. I tried to replace Glitter Gal this spring, but the two sources I knew of didn't have it for sale at this time. Maryl - Two of my gypsy cats, Coco and Sammie, are scaredy cats. On some days, they still seem afraid of me. Do the skinny scapes not hold your UF s upright? Most of my UFs do not have skinny scapes. Those by Wilkerson, Davisson and Hanson, Hansen, and George have very sturdy medium-sized scapes....See Morenicole___
